The Labour Government

Agree with all of that. Legal immigration is the problem and it has been WAY too high for way too long. The negative impact upon some of our communities - lack of GP appointments, overcrowded schools, over-stretched and under-funded local authorities, unemployment, low wages etc - is huge. And then you have the less common, but extremely emotive issue of grooming gangs and the like, which only adds fuel to racists' fire.

A very big problem indeed, is that I think Starmer doesn't really recognise all of this, and if he had his way would probably sign us up to Schenghen. I don't think his heart is set on reducing immigration at all. He's all for multiculturalism and anyone can come in, I think. And is paying lip service to the idea that something must be done.
To be honest Schengen would be a step too far but some level of freedom of movement with Europe would be good. All that has happened since Brexit is we've shut-off the tap to the market next door and seemingly that has required us to open the floodgates to the rest of the world. The Tories know this and it's why they did nothing about it.

The Reform folk meanwhile want the impossible, they want perfectly functional public services, economic growth and no immigration but they don't understand that this is physically impossible. If I own a shop and want to improve my business by 5% then I need 5% more customers and I also need 5% more staff.

The Reform argument or lie is to reduce effective growth to 0% and even -% in the name of removing brown people. The Brexit vote was somewhat similar, folk seemed to care less about growth and more about removing their Polish neighbours.

I'm not overly arsed about multiculturalism because that's a different argument but I am certainly now more pro-immigration because we need people and we need skilled people and there aren't enough of them to sustain everything.

Without any sense of irony or timing yesterday as the Commons voted about WFA my energy company sent me an email stating that the energy costs were going up from October 1st!!! :-)

I'm still voting Labour though because I've suffered enough under that other lot. :-)

It’s interesting how Starmer continues to misquote and misrepresent the OBR’s comments on the public finances, specifically the fabricated £22bn black hole. Did it again today at PMQs.

It really is very poor form.

I don’t think it’s a case of bad Labour but rather badly thought through policy. Set the eligibility bar higher and we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
This is a good point , it is not the policy as such as nobody thinks rich people should be getting wfa , they need to adjust the bar to get pension credt and give everyone a year to get the forms done to apply for it, the dwp is overwhelmed at the best of times and it would take much longer than eight weeks to get processed .dropping this on people with a months notice is the most insane thing to do and is in human

They have said local authorities are giving out money wifh seemingly no idea on what it takes to apply , another hundred pages of all of your finances , everything laid bare for some twat behind a desk to read and make a decision on your life , people say living on benefits is a lifestyle choice with no idea what it takes to get them and how little it is

Rant over

Why? The riots, the broken prison system that has been exposed, dose of reality as far as the economy is concerned....

If' it's going badly for a party that is in power, whichever party, things are almost certainly going badly for the country as well. Is that really what you want?

I voted to remain in the EU, lost, but at no stage did I want Brexit to be a failure because if it was then we all lost-well apart from those with a vested interest in us coming out. As it is, it is not going well, the economy is 4% lower per annum because of it and the country generally is poorer. not only economically but also the way attitudes have become so entrenched ( as we have seen on here over the WFA).

The attitude of people to actually see the country descend even lower than it was on July 4th is frankl baffling.
OF COURSE I want to see our country doing well and people prospering. Including rich people, btw, something some Labour supporters clearly have an issue with.

However, I am passionately of the view that we will NEVER enjoy long term prosperity under a Labour government and whilst I am not thrilled by any particular cock up - and mortified by the WFA scandal - I will be pleased if their cock ups get them booted out sooner rather than later. I am not sure pensioners or anyone else will forget the WFA disgrace and Labour's brazen deceit about it, in a hurry.

As for Brexit, I voted Remain as well, but like you I would like to see leaving the EU work out as best as possible. Actually, I think it is going better than I expected. I expected it to be a complete debacle and it is not that. It is merely making us poorer, which I always thought it would. But if there's changes we can make to make it better, I am all for it.

I think it's great that so many people now clearly recognise the advantages of universal benefits. I welcome this change.

Taken together with the great conversion to the advantages of PR voting, it seems to me that public opinion is at last shifting in a more progressive direction.

Facts! The only bright side in all this nonsense.

Time we had a AI government programmed to answer questions honestly , they would need no expenses , no heating allowances, no second homes, no eating and drinking allowances, no daily payments for turning up to go to sleep, no private jets, no ministerial cars, winner winner black hole fixed.
It all depends who's programmed AI. It's only as good as the information it feeds on.
