The Labour Government

She was racist, sexist and homophobic. Didn't just butter up cruel foreign leaders, but actively supported them.

If we're to suggest that being principled is good, even when those "principles" are vile, then we're heading towards Godwin's law territory.
I cheered and did fist pumps in the air when I found out that Thatcher was dead

Which was wrong of me really as I was the first paramedic at the scene.

You can tell Tories and Reform are absolutely gutted by how well Starmer played it and the praise he was getting.
Are they? Does it matter. He's in the job and in this instance all that matters is he gets the best deal for the UK. Pulling out the invitation from the King was a trump card. You just knew Trump would love it. Soft power at its best.

First Macron and now Starmer have both set the path for hopefully a fruitful meeting with Zelensky. Not a lot of talk about Russia the last few days. The US needed reminding who their friends are. The EU and the UK have a combined GDP of nearly 12 times that of Putins tin pot Russia.

The reality is that a sane UK PM knows the limits of his/her power. I suspect a hostile USA will drive the UK into the EU camp, but we cannot stand alone. I imagine Starmer hopes he can moderate Trump's position. That may be a fantasy, as the man is unstable and unreliable. Indeed, he makes Adolf seem relatively rational by comparison.

I don't envy Starmer's task, but I can't see anyone around who would handle this better. (I don't see crawling up Trump's arse as 'better'.)
I get the impression that Starmer is taking over from Macron during his previous term of trying to balance the relationship between the US and the whole of Europe as Macron may well be out of government before Trump term end.

They both seem to understand his ego and use it to their advantage.

Seeing both of them pushback against Il Dunce and his staff on their turf is more encouraging than some of the pole smoking other leaders have done to Trump.

Can you imagine the lettuce being there as PM

I suspect you’re thinking only the principles you hold are valid.

Thatcher was principally opposed to socialism, big state etc, believed in freedom of the individual and being rewarded for effort to name a few things. All principles, the fact you don’t agree with them is irrelevant.

You seem to be struggling with the concept that not everyone holds the same principles. Her principles even had a name…. thatcherism.

Patronising and ironic ;)

Just because someone has some economic principles (which were a lot less coherent than "Thatcherism" suggests), doesn't mean that they can't have other principles which are pretty much universally considered vile.
