The Durham miners gala will be more interesting this summer. The labour and conservative vote is collapsing in quite a few areas. People are disillusioned with both parties.
Losing Durham council is pretty mad
601 results announced and Labour have just 27 councillors from them.
Shocking.
Gosh, bloviation is back.
Someone posts "the boats are a big issue in everyone’s eyes". And it's anyone who challenges that who's being a political snob.
From the people who gave us Brexit and said that would solve all our problems including immigration!
Just look at the election results, keep telling yourself immigration isn’t a problem is exactly why MAGA,Reform and the far right are gaining ground it’s the reason Brexit happened. Go to the pub and if you say to someone countries in a shit state and you say can’t believe they got rid of the WFA and the first thing they’ll say in response is ye and they are giving to the fuckers coming in on the boats. Is the got to default response for everything that’s going wrong, whether it’s right or wrong it’s there and the sooner the bigger parties address it the more chance they have of stopping the likes of Reform.
We've got ourselves into the ridiculous situation where our mainstream politicians are too cowardly/scared to have a sensible discussion about the challenges (and opportunities) presented by immigration for fear of being labelled as racist. A similar situation that prevents sensible debate around Israeli govt policies.Just look at the election results, keep telling yourself immigration isn’t a problem is exactly why MAGA,Reform and the far right are gaining ground it’s the reason Brexit happened. A case of liberal outrage morphing into facism.
Fair enough. Tbh I'm not sure I could name many current Tories besides badenoch now.Your mainstream Tory politician is worried about being seen as ‘racist’ if he is too hard line on the challenges of immigration? In what universe?
You need stuffing and preserving.... excellent post. We've got ourselves into the ridiculous situation where our mainstream politicians are too cowardly/scared to have a sensible discussion about the challenges (and opportunities) presented by immigration for fear of being labelled as racist. Why can't people just lift their heads out of the sand and wake up and smell the coffee?
Yep shame the Government isn't.God help this country if the reform party get in Farage is the biggest twat in British politics. At a time when the country is fighting against the effects of Brexit, Covid, the war in the Ukraine and the financial turmoil caused by Farages
Lunatic sociopathic mate in the States.
Trumps poodle, says all I need to know.
.... not only the Tories as (I think) @Mazzarelli's Swiss Cheese means by stating mainstream politicians. Labour are equally complicitAgain, the Tory party, in power for years. In what universe were they ever shy about the problems of immigration? As a country we have been banging on about the ‘problems of immigration’ for decades. We’ve had Theresa May and her ‘Go home illegal person!’ message emblazoned on vans, home secs going on illegal migrant raids and a fucking referendum to stop Europeans coming here.
Immigration is a national obsession. It has got to the point where it could be classified as a mental illness.

I sort of disregard the more recent incarnations of the Tories as a political party really
Firstly, you create an enemy. Then you ensure the messaging is good enough via your media friends and play that enemy to the public.Again, the Tory party, in power for years. I remeber being told Labour would deal with immigration by greating a "Border Force"... where is it?Yes it is. You can question its methods or effectiveness, but the Government is undoubtedly trying to combat all those challenges.
How well it does, along with other challenges it faces, will determine its fate. That’s politics.
Border force are doing a grand job shepherding the boat people safely ashore and then making sure their french colleagues get their equipment back.I remeber being told Labour would deal with immigration by greating a "Border Force"... where is it?
Whilst Labour was keen to tell us what they'd do, they consistently failed to tell us how they would do it.
I see no Border Force but I do see a continual stream of boats coming over the channel. What are Labour doing using Border Force to stop the boats because, like it or not, they are, tem months in, increasing in number.
Yes, I think this version of labour is utterly duplicitous and cynical. Starmer attracts most of the anger, but he is only 'seated at the front of the docklands light railway' while McSweeney pulls the strings just as Cummings did with Boris. This damaging version of doing politics means that reform don't seem any more unpleasant or less credible and often appear more honest and in touch..... not only the Tories as (I think) @Mazzarelli's Swiss Cheese means by stating mainstream politicians. Labour are equally complicit
