Look at it this way: If your partner has been overspending and put you and your family in serious debt to the tune of a few £000, and you were still struggling to pay it off 3 months later, would you suddenly say the position you are in had nothing to do with said partner? I doubt it.

If it had been one term, then it is highly likely the descent into the mire would have been partially the fault of successive governments. But it was 3 successive Tory governments over 14 years, their 5 PMs, 7 Chancellors, 8 Home Secretaries etc etc. that has led us into where we are now. It's going to take time, but as we all know, society today expects instant results.

The way they treated employees was disgraceful. Labour are bringing in legislation to outlaw it. Well done Labour, it’s good legislation. It’s done, the battle is won.

It is politically naive to then call them a rogue company (apparently a different word to describe them had been signed off by No 10) and encourage people to boycott them. A better statement would have been “we’ve brought through legislation to bring an end to some of the less acceptable practices we’ve seen in recent years and I look forward to working with P&O in the future” (assuming she was asked a direct question about P&O).

Starmer isn’t backing her. So if Starmer sacks her (aka she resigns) who are you going to back/ criticise? Will Starmer be wrong? Or will Haigh be in the wrong for saying it?

Tory policy inherited by our new government

The dodgy ones will believe it or not continue to be dodgy after these rules are brought in.
Good employers are doing everything they can for their employees already. However these rules will hit some small good employers very hard. As it will cost them money and time to implement. It's not all good news. Costs increase so prices will have to go up or margins will just get smaller and smaller in many small businesses especially hospitality.

Let's not forget the Government has to grow the economy to improve everyone's lot and to do that it's has to enable small and medium businesses to grow. Time will tell.

Thankfully our public service workers will have a little more money to spend in small and medium size businesses after 14 years of wages cuts

Absolutely right. Interestingly 12% of private sector workers feel the need to be in a union versus nearly 50% of public sector workers

You might be forgiven for thinking that the biggest **** of an employer is the government.

It certainly was the case for the last 14+ year's.
I'm over £8,500 a year worse off than in 2009 based on the Bank of England inflation calculator which uses the lower CPI rather than the more accurate RPI (& that's just based on wage, not including having to pay more to work longer and get less of my pension which was always referred to as deferred pay during recruitment and retention negotiations).
