The Labour Government

What exactly is your Labour government going to do to change any of that?

I think you know the answer…….nothing!

So back to the original point of the budget killing recruitment growth.

Our company has laid 3 off the last 2 weeks and next year is going to be incredibly tough in no small part due to the budget and changes/costs of the NI changes. More will probably go sadly and recruitment just won’t happen.

We pay the national living wage before you try to go down that road.

Thoughts?
Hmm well you could do something about it by forcing businesses that want to operate within the UK and perform work on government funded contracts to employ UK based workers and restrict the practice of offshoring, this includes support functions. Yes it would make things more expensive, yes they would have to upskill the workforce and they would need to be audited, but more money would be retained in the UK economy, with a better trained workforce and it would result in a rise in salaries and generally a higher velocity of money within the domestic economy.

The large global companies wouldn't like it as its a restrictive practice, but it would be one way to start to readdress the balance of power between corporations and countries.

I wont hold my breath however that any country or government, never mind in the UK would be so bold.

It's your labour government too. You voted for them after all.

I didn’t vote for policy like this, not in their manifesto and I’m certainly not desperately defending it because “it’s my team”.

My thoughts are that the macro economy will adapt and adjust to the NI increases as it adapts and adjusts to other changes and challenges. Industry needs a healthy and educated workforce and needs to pay for it.

No such thing as a free lunch these days.

Also, if I recall correctly, the increases do not take effect until April 25.

Declining, falling, worst for 4 years.
Sadly it's only going to get worse.
If you tax business at least tax profits rather than the bottom line. That will still have an impact but not the impact Emplyer NI increases will have.
Companies are good at minimising profits on their accounts unfortunately.

''Billionaires won't create jobs if we tax them''

is a myth made up by billionaires so we won't tax them.
