It is but it’s a lot worse for the conservatives. Both the main parties have taken a beating.

Reform obviously will be very happy, Lib Dem’s too.

Someone posts "the boats are a big issue in everyone’s eyes". And it's anyone who challenges that who's being a political snob.

From the people who gave us Brexit and said that would solve all our problems including immigration!

Everyone's eyes must literally mean every person in the country, saying council instead if combined authority.

Just look at the election results, keep telling yourself immigration isn’t a problem is exactly why MAGA,Reform and the far right are gaining ground it’s the reason Brexit happened. We’ve had Theresa May and her ‘Go home illegal person!’ message emblazoned on vans, home secs going on illegal migrant raids and a fucking referendum to stop Europeans coming here.

Immigration is a national obsession. It has got to the point where it could be classified as a mental illness.

Yes it is. You can question its methods or effectiveness, but the Government is undoubtedly trying to combat all those challenges.

How well it does, along with other challenges it faces, will determine its fate. That’s politics.

Firstly, you create an enemy. Then you ensure the messaging is good enough via your media friends and play that enemy to the public.

Bingo! You’ve got people hooked and you play on the division.

We had it for Brexit, and then when the Tories made an informed decision to fill some of those vacated spaces with non-European immigrants, you then play on the new perceived enemy.

Whilst Labour was keen to tell us what they'd do, they consistently failed to tell us how they would do it.

I see no Border Force but I do see a continual stream of boats coming over the channel. What are Labour doing using Border Force to stop the boats because, like it or not, they are, tem months in, increasing in number.

Border force are doing a grand job shepherding the boat people safely ashore and then making sure their french colleagues get their equipment back.

Yes, I think this version of labour is utterly duplicitous and cynical. Starmer attracts most of the anger, but he is only 'seated at the front of the docklands light railway' while McSweeney pulls the strings just as Cummings did with Boris. This damaging version of doing politics means that reform don't seem any more unpleasant or less credible and often appear more honest and in touch.

Labour's Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill is going through Parliament at the moment.

We live in a democracy, and the proposals need to go through multiple stages in Parliament before they become law.

In the meantime, they've started working with, rather than arguing with, the French, who I believe are also introducing new powers for their border patrols.

I'm hopeful that ultimately we'll get an agreement with France over safe routes/exchanges, so that we can stop the dangerous crossings, while still upholding our own commitment to accepting refugees (bearing in mind that we currently accept a hell of a lot less than most countries in Europe).
