The Labour Government

I'm fairly certain the Supermarkets will import the chicken beef etc and have it re-packaged like The Red Tractor con at Tesco. Will then sell it at an attractive price to con the gullible

In which case they will be breaking several laws

Should we be letting the market decide when it comes to food safety? Why have any controls at all?

I won't be buying it until someone answers the question I asked before. Why was it unsafe yesterday, but safe now.
The beef that would be exported would have been farmed to at least the same standard as the UK. Heard a farmers spokesman on the radio say that it’s a very good deal, for both countries.

Then it’s down to you whether you’d buy US beef or stick to what we have now.

There’s a distinct possibility that the UK will soon be in dispute with the WTO as a result of this ‘deal’ with the US, given that it affords preferential treatment to one country outside of a formal trade agreement.

All seems a bit rushed and lacking in rigour.

Wouldn’t quite class Dartford as Islington, I voted for Corbyn previously, I agree with socialist ideals , however as a compromise I’m relieved this current Labour government is in charge after the 14 years of Tories and the rise of Reform- they are doing good but up against a tidal wave of constant abuse and negativity from the press and social media.

You’d vote for a pig in a red rosette. That explains most of your posts.

Why ? Lower interest rates reap a load of benefits for home buyers, owners, Goverment spending and cost of borrowing. It’s good news.

Tell me you don’t understand how the economy works without telling me you don’t understand how the economy works.

I think you may find that there are a lot of more distinguished people on the politics forum who have no need for those things and lose out on savings when they lower the interest rates.

Personally, I’m all for it. The newer generation may not get cheaper houses like we got, but the opportunity has always got to be there. One of the reasons why they’re so disenfranchised.

Surprised the Mail et al. aren’t in a celebratory mood. I thought leaving the single market and forging deals with the US and India was what the masses wanted?

Why did we block it from coming in before?

We were told it was because it didn't meet our food standards.

Has our standards changed, or has their beef and chicken changed?

Any US beef I've eaten has been great and I've not grown an extra head or anything.

I am not sure why you would be excited about this.
The business is haemorrhaging money that the taxpayer is now on the hook for.
Don't get me wrong, for strategic reasons I agree with the governments decision to step in but where are the new orders to justify this increase in production and recruitment?
The economics haven't changed - our energy prices are too high for this business to be viable on its own merits.

None of our food standards have changed, the NFU were very strict on that and I don’t think we’d change them anyway as we’re still trying to strike deals with the EU.

I’m not sure the food in America has changed either, just that, like in many countries, there is a degree of latitude that can be taken, with American law enabling the likes of poor animal/farming standards, chlorinated chicken, GM crops and hormone induced cattle.

However, our standards have been set and only those that pass our standards will be able to trade.

Ps. Not seen any mention of chicken in this deal, unless I’ve missed it.
