The Lords Prayer advert now banned in cinemas.

And how many men of that age would have been crucified at that time?
Thousands!

Could be a piece of the real Jesus has been found:
"Although almost all ancient sources relating to crucifixion are literary, the 1968 archeological discovery just northeast of Jerusalem of the body of a crucified man dated to the 1st century provided good confirmatory evidence that crucifixions occurred during the Roman period roughly according to the manner in which the crucifixion of Jesus is described in the gospels.[21] The crucified man was identified as Yehohanan ben Hagkol and probably died about 70 AD, around the time of the Jewish revolt against Rome. The analyses at the Hadassah Medical Schoolestimated that he died in his late 20s. Another relevant archaeological find, which also dates to the 1st century AD, is an unidentified heel bone with a spike discovered in a Jerusalem gravesite, now held by the Israel Antiquities Authority and displayed in the Israel Museum.[22][23]

So they found a 20 something man who may have been crucified. A probably date and a name. Jehohanan. Not very Jesusy is it?

And you wouldn't believe how many churches have got Jesus' foreskin or finger in a box.

I'll give you some history, see where it takes you.

There was this man, may have been of Roman descent, may have been a pagan, who, when the Roman legions were called back to Rome to help fight the hordes and internal fighting led either a huge war band or an army against the invaders in a series of battles until the nasty invaders suddenly gave up in their quest for land.

That my friend is the story of Arthur, or Artus or whatever you want to call him...and that is all the historical facts we know about him. End of. We know nothing more apart from circumstantial evidence.

The Saxons did seem to end up stalling their land conquests for decades (evidence suggests this but is not conclusive). Hill Forts in and around the area where the great battles were supposed to have taken place were heavily fortified when the Romans pulled out (research South Cadbury Castle for more info).

His name appears once in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles. Which is a book about the times, a book written by monks in or around the 10th century. Crucially this is 300-400years after the events I described took place.

A little later, other writers took up the cause and added in extra characters like Merlin and a few friends. Some French dandy then added a love interest, a love rival and a chivalry element. This was enough for the then King of England to build a great wooden circular table which you can still see, on a wall, in Winchester.

What started out as a simple tale of one man maybe uniting a few war bands to continuously harass land grabbing invaders has turned into a semi tragic love story interwoven with intrigue, murder, magic and bloody battles. In other words. Just what people want to read about.

Seems a little familiar doesn't it?
