The Manchester Evening News

It's not a local paper, it's the Manchester edition of the Mirror. It is full of celeb gossip, national news, bits from other Reach regional titles such as the Liverpool Echo, Birmingham Mail etc. They have a few kids as local 'reporters' on buttons and that's it.

I was reading an article on how Reach currently works the other day. Everything is based on the number of clicks every article gets and they have switched to Google rather than Facebook. What doesn't get many clicks is news, politics and business content. The most popular articles are about the Royal Family, celebrity gossip, United transfer stories and, bizarrely, stories about Dunelm products. One of the most successful articles recently was about a Dunelm clothes dryer that 'people couldn't live without'. WTF!!

Articles / stories have to gain at least 24k clicks and each reporter has been tasked with knocking out 8 per shift. To say it's shite is a total understatement.
That Dunelm dryer is mint. I couldn’t live without mine

Surprised to read it sells 5000 daily thought it would be less than that. Definitely don't see any paperboys/ girls delivering after school anymore.

They'll run out of ink tonight waxing lyrical about the raggy's beating the waiters and getting their first European win in a year

Disgusting paper considering it’s supposed to be impartial just like Granada news always drooling over the rags and scousers.

You wouldnt think the website could possibly be worse than the printed version........but it is!
Infested with pop up adverts and automated video clips taking up bandwidth slowing its operation down to snail like performance, no doubt containing potential viruses as well as being impossible to follow. In short it's fucking shite and I'd rather poke cocktail sticks in my eyes than click on a link to it.

I became aware of decline of the MEN when I was visiting Manchester for a Conference. I was travelling to two conferences the first at Salford University and the second in Bristol a week later. I decided to stay over in Manchester between the two conferences rather than trek back to Edinburgh.

City had a match against Wigan in the gap so I booked a ticket for the match featuring the first Sergio Aguero hat trick for City.

I also went to visit former neighbours in Cheadle Hulme and was informed the their MEN was now delivered in the morning. I was bewildered by that. Why would a ‘Evening’ newspaper be delivered in the morning? They should be done under the Trades Description Act!
