The NHS

Boris promises 50,000 new nurses,he has been forced to accept that 19,000 of them are already here so they are not new,the rest he wants to get in will not come here being charged 10,000 quid to do it and the rest was retaining nurses and as i said just leaving things as they are will not stop them leaving, it's a nonsense,i have seen him talk about this several times,it's a sound bite about something the public care about no more no less,it will not happen
Did you read what I posted above?

We have 280,000 nurses and he's promising 330,000 nurses. How many more is that?

It is an entirely seperate debate about whether that increase is achievable, but I hope you can "woman up" and admit, yeah OK it is an extra 50,000. Because it is.

No he promises 50,000 new nurses,it's been picked apart by every man and his dog,he has picked a number to use as a sound bite,he has broken it down and the very premise it's 50,000 new nurses is laughable

Why did whatsherface make such a shit show of the interview on this issue then if it's as simple as you claim?

Was it just a Diane Abbot moment?

What is 330,000 minus 280,000?

You need to wobble your Labour lobbying head and engage your junior school maths head. He's promising 50,000 more nurses and the BBC confirmed the figures.

Listen to the BBC program I linked. They explained it really badly but it is 50,000 extra nurses.

Sigh,he is promising that number but if you look at how he himself broke it down it is not 50,000 NEW nurses, half of those he included are already here,he said NEW not more

Just for the record i hate the current labour party but it is the best of the bunch,i'm not spending hours on here argueing their case,i do however know what i'm talking about when it comes to the NHS

You can sigh all you like Karen. What matters is how many more nurses has he promised and the answer is 50,000. It's silly to try to demean the commitment by playing with semantics. What matters is it's 50,000 more nurses.

I had not realised turnover is as high as it is and that over the last 5 years we have actually recruited 160,000 *new" nurses. The problem is another 160,000 have left. Putting measures in to try to reduce that drain, is surely to be applauded?

There is a huge difference between new nurses and more nurses, new nurses was his great announcement,he carried on with it fror a couple of weeks till everyone tore it apart,it's not me putting words in his mouth,i'm sure you know that,he can't retain nurses unless he ups wages and they don't have to spend a fortune to park at work, the pressure the nurses are underdue to understaffing is also why they leave,he is doing nothing about those 3 things, the nurses promised from overseas are not paying 10,000 to come here,he claims just do not stack up,stop defending him on this

The only thing I am defending Karen is the claim about 50,000 more nurses which some people have chosen to misrepresent as being less than 50,000. If we have 280,000 now and by the end of the next government term, we have 330,000 then I don't think anyone could argue that the Tories had NOT lived up to their promise of giving us 50,000 more nurses, do you?

As to whether this is achievable, that's an entirely different question and you'd probably be better placed to judge that than me. I am not defending Johnson on this point (nor attacking him, FWIW). It may be achievable, maybe not. I don't know.

My *only* point was about the extra 50,000. I had - like you - thought the Tories were playing games with the figures and it was not 50,000 more at all. But on looking into it further, it is correct. They are promising 50,000 more nurses than we have now.

We've all suffered under austerity - and some more than others obviously - but everyone has experienced poor wages growth and seen our public services decline. It's been very difficult. If austerity is truly done with now and even the Tories are promising more investment, I think that's a a great thing and we should all have a more positive future to look forward to.

Absolutely criminal what has been done to our NHS, doctors and nurses getting all the stick, being hung out to dry because of reasons out of their control.

They're crying out for help.
