The old days

Now dont get me wrong I'm living the dream and wouldnt want it any other way.

But I miss when football was just about what was played on the pitch.

Now every one is an accountant, a lawyer, a ref etc.

FFP bent as a nine bob note brought in to stop competition and protect the old school.

VAR again brought in to protect the old school and to effect games ( Rashford at old toilet for one )

Football press/media only cover 2 or 3 clubs, and again properly employed by American owned media outlets.

Tweeter, Facebook etc allow hatred to be passed around the world so quickly.

American owners wanting a closed shop league.

Fans seem to spend most of their time talking about things of the pitch.

I really fear for our game and deep down think we have seen the best and the American owners will slow destroy our game we loved as kids.

Anyone else miss the time football was simple and just a game between 22 players ?
Or am I suffering from rose tinted glasses ?
Totally agree, those toilets in the Kippax though , fuckin hell they were something :-) don’t miss them one bit..!

I have been transferring my collection of videos built up from the 1980s onto DVD over the last few months.

Its like a horror show to be honest.

How the fook I and many others of that era didnt walk away I will never know.
A workmate of mine spoke to the entire messroom one day, after another dismal home performance.
He said, "You know if you go to the pub and you get a crap pint, you probably wouldn't go there again would you?"
"Well I go to City, spend good money, watch a crap match and I still go and stand on the Kippax next home game!"
"Why?"
We've all probably thought the same over the years!

Luxury, compared to the river caves at Central Park rugby ground Wigan, another wonderful stadium surrounded by fantastic pubs, replaced by a soulless bowl in a beer desert. Stokes Victoria ground same apples no doubt many more.

hmmmm the old days...

Thug football where the Roy Keanes and VInny fucking Jones were the best in Europe!?
Only utd and arsenal mattered.
Where it wasnt even televised unless someone at ITV decided they would put it on.
Players so shit they were stealing a living.
All the fans fighting, street battle over a game of football.
The racism my god the racism. I just dont get the criticims nowadays when there were whole stands singing racists songs at players, on TV, without anyone saying a thing about how wrong it was. We have improved so much there.
refereeing standards so poor they couldnt keep up with the players.

What I do miss was the simplicity though. Its 22 plyers kicking a ball about, there wasnt micro-analaysis of everything, or extracting as much money as possible out of it. But like everything else that is profitable it was never going to stay the same .
Plenty of players still stealing a living lol

Times moves on though I like many others have been pissed off with direction football went in past thirty years. Massive amounts of money involved in transfers and wages sure took lot of romance and excitement out the game.

It's impossible near enough nowadays for teams to rise from abyss and challenge like years ago. Suppose its always been hard for lesser resourced clubs to compete
