The race for the Top 4 - RUNNERS UP, a game to spare

Re: The race for the Top 4

Both Swansea and Southampton games isn't going to be easy. Just concentrate in getting maximum points, and everything else is a bonus.

If Arsenal win all of the remaining three games, they go second no matter if we win our last two... but only if they beat our goal difference! :D

Thanks dobobobo so second is in our control. Still not sure whether to support the Rags though

A draw will do me. Swansea and Southampton have got a lot to play for, going to be close in both games I reckon.

That said, it is Europa they'd be aiming for, so if they have any sense, they'd both give it a miss.

Sky pandering too their subscribers before this match talking of a title challenge next season for Arsenal. Can't see it happening, dont have it in them to go for 38 games.

They're not far off to be honest. Next season should be fascinating. If Arsenal bring in a couple more players of Sanchez quality they can mount a good challenge. They cant remain shite indefinitely.

Funny that second this season now would almost feel like a victory.

They've always been a couple of players off a title challenge. They need a 30 goal a season striker, a keeper and two decent centre halves. Not many of them about at the moment.

2nd would be a nice end to a disappointing season, a month ago we were worrying about finishing 5th.

Surely that doesn't take long to think about.

I don't want them twats to win ever.

If it helps us more than it helps them then you should do. They've unfortunately got fourth place nailed on now so it's plan B: lets get second.

Re: The race for the Top 4

Things look pretty good for us now. I think I have this right.

Recall Arsenal plays the rags still. The rags and us have 2 matches and Arsenal has 3.

Let's assume . . .

(A) regardless of the Arsenal/Rags outcome, Arsenal win their other 2 and Utd their last one.

(B) Neither Arsenal nor the rags can overcome the current -9 and -16 GDs relative to us. GD does impact these scenarios.

Then . . .

1) No matter if we lose our final two, an Arsenal win vs. the rags guarantees us 3rd. So does a draw. Basically the only way we can finish 4th is if the scum beat Arsenal, then win their last, Arsenal win their last two, and we lose our last two.

2) Win both our matches and we are 2nd.

3) A win and a draw and we finish 2nd unless Arsenal win out, in which case we are 3rd.

4) Two draws and we are 3rd regardless.

5) A draw and a loss and we are 3rd.

6) A win and a loss and we are 3rd; 2nd if the scum beat Arsenal.

If they buy a quality defender or two and replace Carzola with quality, they could be there or there abouts next season.

Re: The race for the Top 4

Swansea will be a very tough game on Sunday so we could do with United beating Arsenal just in case we lose.
