The Rise of the Far Right

The liberal establishment is pushing the narrative that the expression of pride in your nation is in some way far right, but the vast majority of the country isn't buying it.

You think that yesterday's marchers were readers of Dickens and Shakespeare?

Lol.

What was on display yesterday was the absolute antithesis of everything your post celebrates.

A foreign oligarch calling for the violent overthrow of a democratically elected government to a pissed up crowd.

Britain is one of the oldest still functioning parliamentary democracies on the planet, built on strong Christian foundations.

We are the home of Magna Carta, the birthplace of the system of common law that is the real source of concepts such as individual liberty, free speech, the right to a fair trial, etc.

Our language is the most widely spoken on the planet, the language of the internet and global commerce.

We are the home of the industrial revolution, the first steam engine, leading to key advances like steam trains, steam boats and factory production.

The home of cultural giants like Shakespeare, Dickens, Tolkien, Orwell, etc. Some of the most influential figures in world literature to this day.

The home of scientists who made major contributions to the progress of humanity such as Newton, Darwin, Faraday, Turin, etc. Again, hugely influential on the global stage.

Just a tiny fraction of the legendary figures produced by this tiny island off the coast of Europe, I could go on and on but I don't have the time or energy, you could write a book about the contribution Britain has made to the progress of the human race and I'm sure many have.

Our contribution to the arts, music, the wider culture, continues to this day.

We're standing on the shoulders of giants, we have a lot to be proud of, we have a distinctive culture that produced these hugely significant ancestors, and this is worth celebrating and preserving.

Talk about fish and chips and curry is a very low grade level of analysis of what it means to be British and a little bit silly.

How is any of this under threat? How does yesterday enhance or protect any of this?

There's nowt so blind as those that will not see.

I hope people arent trying to sell yesterday's events as nothing more than an expression of pride in the nation.

Cause no-one is buying that bollocks.

I agree with much of this, but I'm seeing something I've not seen before and it looks a bit like the Trumpists in the States, notwithstanding the bigots and the stupid I get the impression that a lot of folk know they're being played, but they don't care. They don't like the way things are, often they can't articulate it and the establishment parties don't try to on their behalf, but the charlatans do, so they throw their lot in with them if only as a big fuck you.
Yes that certainly seems to be the case in the US and I'm sure most of the people there yesterday must realise Hopkins and Tommy are not the answer but as you say they're going to do it anyway.

That's the impression I get from this...

Multiculturalism is a hard sell to this crowd.

I read Musk's speech if you can call it that.
His call to overthrow the Government. His attempts to goad people into violence. His demonisation of the left linking them to the death of his dear Charlie.

If there was any doubt before he's removed it. He's a fascist plain and simple. And with his vast resources he's not a two bob one like Tommy.

This is a dangerous situation and I hope the majority of attendees yesterday see him for what he is and reject him.

Know your enemy.

You don't.
Who’s ‘my’ enemy?

You seem to have all the fucking answers.

Also all these protests are about is stopping the boats, if we take that out of the equation what will make their country better? They’re not offering any solutions to anything, they’re just spouting racist rhetoric.

It’s so fucking transparent, blame immigration for all of the countries ills.

I’ll stick with my view that they’re nearly all thick racist thugs.

But they won't, so start from there and you might end up where you want to be, otherwise you're lost.

Hardly any if the population voted for this lot, they voted for Change.

Vast majority. Pmsl.
