The Scottish Politics thread

I was getting worried about you for a second mate! You’re normally a bit quicker to back the boys up. :-)

On this subject though I think it’s only fair to agree that Sturgeon has dropped the ball and made the kind of errors that if any Tory politician had made would be ridiculed and abused for.
It’s a shame really as for a little while she seemed like one of the more capable leaders.
I guess power does strange things to people.

Your quip aside, spot on ;-)

Her issues just highlights just how bad the leaders/politicians are today mate, or maybe they were always bad but just get found out sooner nowadays with wall to wall news and social media.

Ask yourself why she resigned?

She was found to have misled the Scottish Parliament.

She introduced a disastrous transgender policy that had a huge impact in her departure.

She presided over a disastrous court case against Salmond which left he with egg on her face and a huge bill for tax payers to pick up.

Her husband was under police investigation into party funds which also led to her own arrest at one point.

Much like the Westminster lot, WhatsApp messages where lied about for months only to be then told they too had been deleted.

The £100k camper van sat on the drive the party funds paid for.

The ferry fiasco and costs whose inquiry found her to have lied.

Her polling plummeted, she began to throw away an almost guaranteed victory across the board for the SNP.

She had it all but like many in power, the lines of what is and isn’t acceptable begin to blur and she began to over step and she got found out and the pressure began to mount.
To be fair though mate the 100k camper-van paid for out of party funds was parked at her mother-in-law’s drive, so there’s nothing dodgy about that!

Ask yourself why she resigned?

She was found to have misled the Scottish Parliament.

By a vote along party lines, a majority of members concluded that Ms Sturgeon misled the committee when she said she had made clearMr almond at an April 2018 meeting that she would not intervene in the investigation. This inaccurate account was a “potential breach” of the code, they said. But the committee agreed unanimously that the separate inquiry by Ireland's former director of public prosecutions James Hamilton, Ms Sturgeon's adviser on the ministerial code, was the "most appropriate place" to assess whether it had been breached. Mr Hamilton's report was published on Monday and cleared Sturgeon of any breach.

She introduced a disastrous transgender policy that had a huge impact in her departure.

Personally, I thought far too much emphasis was given to this policy when there were so many other priorities to address. She denies it was a major factor in her resignation so your assertion is your opinion rather than fact. The right wing unionist media both north and south of the border have made a huge issue around it and undoubtedly it will have had an adverse impact in Scotland.

During her resignation speech and interviews she said she regretted not being able to bring a more "rational approach" to the ongoing debate over trans issues in Scotland. "I will always be a voice for inclusion, for equality, human rights and dignity," Sturgeon said."I have been, am, and will always be a feminist. I will fight for women's rights and I will stand up against threats to women's rights every day that I have breath in my body. "But I will also stand up for any stigmatised, discriminated against, marginalised and vulnerable group in society." Heartfelt? or was the policy politically naive?

She presided over a disastrous court case against Salmond which left he with egg on her face and a huge bill for tax payers to pick up.
Yes she did and the case was badly mishandled for sure. Personally very difficult for her. Salmon was her mentor and helped build her career.

The £100k camper van sat on the drive the party funds paid for.
Her husband was under police investigation into party funds which also led to her own arrest at one point.

Charges? What? None? two and a half years after the investigation started? No sign of any prosecution yet. They seem to be getting desperate now. Leaks regarding forged signatures recently, even reports into what car Murrell drove.
It all reminds me of the charges our brilliant team face as does the reaction of folk like you who want to believe in guilt before its proven.

Much like the Westminster lot, WhatsApp messages where lied about for months only to be then told they too had been deleted.

Yeah - like Westminster it doesn't look great although she claims the investigation already has hers.
The ferry fiasco and costs whose inquiry found her to have lied.
The KC enquiry did not find that she lied or that the procurement process was dishonest. They identified flaws in the procurement process.
The former Ferguson shipyard owner Jim McColl disputed the first minister's claim that the contract had saved 400 jobs - because the yard had only employed 150 people at the time. Is this the 'lie' you refer to?

Its a bloody disgrace that these boats are still not ready and frankly the Scottish Government handling has been very poor indeed.

Her polling plummeted, she began to throw away an almost guaranteed victory across the board for the SNP.

She made mistakes. She is a politician and the very best of them put their version of the truth forward depending on the situation. She is far from perfect and it still may be that criminal prosecutions are made concerning SNP finances. Neither I nor you know that. Its true that the SNP polling has slipped against Labour - how much is down to her and how much is down to a Unionist press that jumps on every misstep and has tried to convince those that consume it that she is indeed 'in the gutter'.

Spot on, she makes mistakes, imagine that! Sadly some on here have an agenda and can't see past their prejudices.

She has made mistakes but she has done an awful lot of good things, sadly some on here cannot get past their own agenda, we live in a world where right wing media dictates how a lot people think.
Still, she should be on the next honours list for those whatsapp messages, glad it's upset a few hand wringers, what a hero

The media helps too.

Oh Christ not the “it was the media’s fault” line again?

Did the Daily Mail force her husband to use party funds to buy a motor home?

Did the Express force the SNP into the CalMac fiasco?

Was it the Telegraph that suggested she go on the witch hunt over Salmond?

Did GB News tell her to delete all her covid WhatsApp communications?

Everything she is getting pelters for, had she been a Tory she would have got double and no one would bat an eyelid.

Its all very Red scouse this victimhood stuff mate.

She fucked it up for herself.

It seems to have some influence over folk. You certainly could be a headline writer or editor for them based on your posts ;-)
