The Scottish Politics thread

You do realise that this was a vote by 18 members of the local council don’t you?

I do.

You do realise that was all it took don't you given its a tiny Island although they do have a hell of a lot of oil in its waters.

Regardless, Independence if/when it comes and im now of the opinion it is coming will be a financial shock and the perks up here, free prescriptions, free university etc will be some of the first things to go.

The Scottish public just needs to be aware that independance will have to be paid for and the bill wont be being shared around the rest of the UK.

Absolutely. And I think most of us that are pro indy know this. The toughest years will be the early years when its us that take the brunt of it and fund the infrastructure required to support our economy.

That being said, it is absolutely the right direction to take as we can then mould our economy to Scotland, not to financial London. Then we will all find out the true extent of how much of our wealth really comes and goes to Westminster. Not to mention rejoin the EU and welcome policies such as their new tax haven law, which Brexit conveniently avoids.

Looking at the direction of Westminster (newsflash - the UK is no longer the wave ruling world power we arrogantly seem to think we are) I have absolutely no doubt in my mind my kids will be in a far better place than what they would be under the status quo.

That's the reason more and more people are coming to the idea of Indy from camp pro union (Ewan McGregor I see being the latest). Electing Boris was a move to far which has been the stamp on independance. His incompetance has been a bigger propeganda boost than what the SNP could have conjured.

Interesting to read your viewpoint. It's very similar to a lot of Brexit arguments. If it's what the Scottish people genuinely want then I hope you get another ref in around 5 years time and make your cut. I'll be sad to see Scotland go though, I hope total independence doesn't stop us being close friends as countries.
