The SNP 'failed' at winning an outright majority, by one seat. They have 33 seats more than the next best party. Plus 8 greens who are proindy, giving them a majority of 7. They also align on many other if not all policies, with the greens basically a more lefty version of the snp and with a bigger focus on environment.
In short they will have no issue at all governing.
There has been no significant change, overall it is an increase of 3 seats.
Regarding indyref, doesn't really matter either way imo. The snp had a mandate last term, parliament voted it through. they went along with Boris rejecting it because it suited them, to get to and win This election on it, before pushing it. They have a mandate again, maybe slightly stronger maybe not, and parliament will vote it through, when tabled. Thereafter it becomes a mess. Nicola is in no rush to do it, and has already caveated recovery comes first. But she Has to do it this term now, as she cant sustain stretching it out like this, it will frustrate her voters. Or maybe she can, who knows, nobody could have forseen covid, that still has to settle.
I've said on here a few times, and I still sthink that, I don't want another referendum. I'm one of those. That's not to say I don't 100% recognise the mandate is there, as it has been last term too, for one to happen when the Scottish parliament elected by the people decides. One is coming whether i want it or not (I didn't want that brexit one either) and that is democracy. Other than that, I'm happy with the parliament make-up and government, could have done with less torries and more of Anyone else really, but they have milked the single issue campaign so I'm hopeful it is centred around that for the time being rather than general policy (of which they have none anyway).
Think it really does need to now be put on the back burner, till things settle a bit.
Unfortunately, we won't be allowed that, and not by the proindy lot, but by the UK media and the mainstream parties.
If you watched the aftermath coverage of the election, the only ones talking about it were the opposition parties and the media, and thats all they talked about.
