He was the right guy at the right time as thaskin was having his millions locked down Hughes was perfect for us, his track record before and since us justifies that a bottom-mid table club with a small budget is all he can cope with.
When the big bucks came he was over whelmed and his misplaced to bowen et el and he was doomed to failure unfortunately it made us look a very daft in the process santa cruz lesscott de jong etc were decent 4-6m players that he seemed to get an hard on for and refused to walk away spending 75 on the 3 just because money was no object.
Fortunately we have learnt the lesson and those times under clueless were still more exciting than preace at least :)
plus imagine how many loyal blue wouldnt have been able to deal with a sudden progression from average dross to superb. we would have lost loads of good fans by progressing too quickly.
