The Squad planning thread

I went with trying for an older, more experienced (at least at City) 11 vs a younger, less experienced (on the whole) 11 with new signings and potential:

Ortega
Nunes Stones Dias Gvardiol
Rodri Bernardo
Foden Gundogan Doku
Haaland

Subs: Ake, Akanji

Ederson
Lewis Khusanov Reis Ait-Nouri
Gonzalez Reijnders
Cherki Bobb Savinho
Marmoush

Subs: O'Reilly, Echeverri
Winner! Though I think experience wins 2-0 ;-)

Here is a challenge. From the CWC squad construct two EQUALLY matched teams each with 2 subs (leaving out our new third choice keeper). Only using any player once obviously. When you are finished it should be hard to pick a winner if they played each other. Not a first and second team. Different formations are allowed.

Only if you are bored like.

When i saw the squad announcement my first thought was about where certain players had been placed i.e. defence or midfield, any whether there was any subliminal meaning? I'm referring to Lewis, O'Reilly and Nunes. So does Pep see Nunes and O'Reilly as midfielders next season? Or did Pep have nothing to do with how the list was presented?

Interesting but almost certainly the latter.

I read the Bremen forum recently, and there was no great enthusiasm for bringing him back. They seemed to recognise that there was a player in there, but that he would likely be on their bench and be too expensive for them for just that. Has a young family, too, so must be hard moving from club to club.
He's no Big Dave.

After these new midfield signings and Rodri’s return surely kovacic, Gundogen, Mcatee and even Bernardo have to leave ? Especially with pep wanting a smaller squad.
We need a bigger squad than last season and it probably will be after last seasons clusterfuck of injuries and loss of form but your right that one or two will go probably gundo and mcatee .

We're in a great position now.

We've essentially got 11 weeks to find ourselves a RB.

Then look to raise a few quid in sales, apart from Jack I wouldn't want any 1st teamers to leave this summer.
Oh no no no no.

We have 76 days until we ofter half of a release clause for a RB. And one extra day to offer 10% more.

That is the way.

Reis - loan
Echeverri - loan
Rico- sell- Livramento in
John stones- sell
One of Ake or Akanji- Sell
Bernardo/Gundo- one of them sell
Gibbs white in.

That’s minus 6 from the 25 man but + a rb and Gibbs white- 21 man squad and rest filled in with youth players when required imo- that’s two quality players in each position, which should be enough imo
That leaves us with two senior players we can't register. Well done ;)

Hahaha does it- well I guess that’s why I’m not a director of football then! I just can’t see us having more than 22 senior players next year in the playing squad, but then still think we will bring in a few…. Fire sale

Gonna be a very interesting season next year. Liverpool look so strong with their signings (Wirtz is extremely talented!!) and also their rumoured future signings, Kerkez and Barcola. Arsenal as well if they get Rodrygo and a striker alongside Zubimendi, which is starting to look more likely, will also be ridiculously strong. These two teams are adding top talent to settled good sides.

Feels like we are still in a massive transition phase where we need to sell or loan out at least another 5/6 players before we can bring in the much needed right back. Think the CWC squad is 27 players strong not included Walker and Grealish. So if Pep wants his smaller squad of around 22 players 5 need to be sold and i would think Echeverri and Reiss will surely go out on loan. You then have the question marks over the likes of Khusanov who couldnt even make the bench when Stones and Ake were still injured becoming a player that Pep must now rely on.

Whether we rate them or not the players who are probably leaving were being picked by Pep ahead of the players we will be keeping and relying on next season to challenge for a title. CWC will hopefully give us a bit of an indication of who Pep sees as players he wants to involve next season.

Is there any website where all sales (including revenues, including youth players, loan fees, resale shares, etc.) per season are listed? On Transfermarkt, for example, youth players are listed separately and no revenue is shown for e.g. loans, resale participations. Thank you in advance.

Random suggestion but if the wingers this season don't kick on, so we go into the winger market next summer, with how we keep relationships with clubs, do you reckon we go for Fofana from Lyon the young winger who's 20. He's apparently a bright talent in Ligue un

I just don't see the sense in looking towards new attackers.

The oldest attacking player we now have is Marmoush, who not too long ago turned 26.

We can't even play the wingers we currently have (Bobb, Doku, Savinho, Echeverri).

We need loans for players who have a future with us, not for the likes of Walker, Grealish, Kabore and Philipps who are obviously no longer required by Pep.
Thing is that we can only loan 6 players so if we waste 4 for players who are going to move anyways then it’s better to loan out the ones with a future. All 4 need to go with number 2 and 4 being the hardest ( number 4 impossible)
