Their 2nd album was fucking wank. They have a handful of decent songs and that's it.

The hype that surrounds them is very odd.
You either got them or you didn't....
I was 15 when I first heard I wanna be adored and that was all it took for me to get hooked, from 89 to now their music still gives me goosebumps and my hair stands on end, only the roses and John Lennon songs move me like no other music has...
Suppose it was a Manchester thing for some of us with the roses..

There's no point in arguing with those who just don't get it mate.

Imo the first LP is the best LP ever and it still sounds just as exquisite 26 years later.

There has also been nothing that's come close since.

Someone had a photo done with reni yesterday and asked about new stuff..
"we've done a new album.. " was his reply...
Take it how you want.

LOl the same occurrence was mentioned on efestivals yesterday. Yet in that story Reni said no mate and gave a cheeky smile.

I've heard "I wanna be adored" a couple of times recently on the radio while driving and felt lucky. It's enrapturing. A beautiful piece of music with a longing, desperate, whining tone that encapsulates a fundamental desire in the human condition. They may not be that impressive at a concert, I wouldn't know but that song alone for me is a masterpiece.

I think people's opinions of the Roses are heavily influenced by their own experience.
If you were part of the Madchester scene and grew up with the music and culture, then I don't think anyone could convince you that the Roses were anything less than brilliant. If you somehow didn't experience those days, whether due to age or other musical taste, then I can fully understand why the band may note excite you as much.
The Roses were part of my teenage years in Manchester, and their debut album will always be high up on any list of my top albums.
A soundtrack for a generation.

Exactly this. I feel incredibly lucky to say that Spike Island was my first ever gig! Yes, the sound was shite, the day was far too long with crap support acts, but the experience was still probably the "coolest" thing I've ever done and almost certainly changed me...! The finale (last two tracks) of the first album is the best ending to any album I've ever heard...what a way to go out...especially the mind-blowing finish to I Am The Resurrection.

I remember going to see them in Norwich during their UK tour after the Second Coming was released (as the band slowly fell apart), and somehow getting into the back-stage party, and making a right dick of myself by telling Ian Brown that Spike Island was one of the best experiences of my life ("Right, great" said he in his nasal monotone, before turning back to the fawning lasses on either side!)

A photo of John squire sporting a fine beard and long hippy hair, taken in what looks a recording studio, doing the rounds tonight on social media...
so we got reni, Ian brown and John squire sporting beards..
Coincidence?
Or a new look for a new album?
Interesting...
