I am old c*nt - I can't deny it but I am not stuck in the past.

I don't mind the Stone Roses - did a couple of really good songs but they didn't have the depth or range of musicianship and songwriting ability to do much more than that.

I enjoy music where I can hear new things in it even years after I have first heard it. With the Roses, even the stuff I like, once you I've heard it once you'll never hear anything new in it again.

Now go and finish your paper round and then do your homework.

That bit is nonsense. Reni is arguably the greatest drummer this country has ever produced. Squire and Mani are fantastic musicians as well.
We can all have opinions over Browns voice or whether you like the songs. But to criticize their musical abilities shows a total lack of ignorance.

John Bonham is spinning in his grave

He can spin all he wants, that won't make him better than Reni.

A couple of decent songs and that's it. I honestly don't understand the cult following they have.

To be fair, it was a couple of great singles / b sides followed by a fantastic album, Fools Gold and one great song on the 2nd album (Ten Story Love Song)

The music aside, my opinion of TSR will be forever tarnished by Ian Brown behaving like a complete cock on live TV when the power went out.
He acted like a complete c**t. I remember watching it live and feeling embarrassed.
It was somewhat ironic that he shouted "amateurs" considering his voice wasn't even worthy of a spot at the local karaoke venue.

Unfortunately Stony you have completely missed the point.

Very good band but heard loads complain about how shit they are live . Imo not a patch on oasis and the smiths.

Being in a band myself i look more into them musically rather than the personalties that come with them..

John is a very very good guitar player, hits every note perfectly and can do it equally as good live in my opinion. Gets an amazing sound from all the effects he use. Is also very versatile in the range of style and techniques he has

Ian Brown is a terrible singer live, on the albums he wasnt too bad though

Reni - Good solid drummer, nothing amazing though like some think. Though i'm into my Heavier music more so than the roses, more into drummers like mikkey dee, iain paice, keith moon, bonham etc

Mani - heavily inspired by him being a bass player, i love how catchy his basslines are in songs like adored, good times et. That bass was sooo loud at the heaton park gig, could hear it clearly from my garden lol

Overall good band with some catchy tunes, definatley not worth the hype they get but minus brown's voice, are amazing live.

I've tried my hardest to get into the stone roses but I just can't, I'm not sure why- my favourite band Oasis are heavily influenced by the roses, I love indie Rock, there riffs are quality, same for drumming and Ian Browns vocals are great on the albums overall extremely talented band, but still I listen and don't feel anything aside from a few tracks - 'I am the resurrection' would be in my top 5 ever

I actually prefer Ian Browns solo stuff a lot more.

Those you list are either dead or old Jim, nowt wrong with that, just an observation.

I think this may be an age thing as a lot of folk do tend to stick with the music they grew up with.

So to sum up , you stony and chabal are old c**ts stuck in the past while the rest of us are open minded bright young things with an eclectic taste in music ;.)

Sorted.

Yes you could argue that.

You could also argue that the Earth is flat and the Moon is made of green cheese.

the debut album sits at 30

would have thought it would be a bit higher

I think people's opinions of the Roses are heavily influenced by their own experience.
If you were part of the Madchester scene and grew up with the music and culture, then I don't think anyone could convince you that the Roses were anything less than brilliant. If you somehow didn't experience those days, whether due to age or other musical taste, then I can fully understand why the band may note excite you as much.
The Roses were part of my teenage years in Manchester, and their debut album will always be high up on any list of my top albums.
A soundtrack for a generation.

The Blackpool gig in'89 is still the best one I've ever been to, tho I saw them again at ally pally & they were fuckin dreadful!!
