I just hope that following on from the announcement Uefa and the PL just put out a statement saying they are sorry to hear of this development but respect the clubs decisions, as such we await their letters of resignation from the EPL as from the end of the season.

The clubs assume their drawing power as global entities with global fan bases will result in high broadcast revenue. Agree with others that the owners couldn’t care less about the local fans or match day gates. Local rivalries will diminish in importance over time — the Manchester derby would be replaced as “important” by, say, Barca/Juve if those were the league’s two best sides for several years. So the only power the current fan base has is to vote with their feet and eyes. But the owners are counting on fans in Delhi or New York to keep watching, and new fans to be generated. The American owners in this case also sniff weakness in American baseball and American football (due to real potential challenges ahead related to concussions — American football is “a sport all the mothers in America could shut down in 24 hours if they wanted to” someone once said). They see more kids playing low contact, high energy soccer — and they want to catch that wave before the MLS has any strength/power. There are multitudes of reasons why American owners LOVE this idea — none of them rely on what today’s local fans think.

The other thing I think we are missing out on is that this is the tip of the iceberg. The napster moment of football so to speak. These clubs are essentially throwing down a gauntlet to Fifa and UEFA and saying we can run football better than you.

We can make more money, with streaming platforms that we own, with games held in glamorous stadiums throughout the world, think like the grand prix, a round of fixtures in Singapore then Sydney etc. We can control agents, the days of Mino taking 20 million of a Pogba transfer fee and running roughshod over clubs will be gone. Wage cap and transfer fees may well follow. In terms of getting other clubs involved and expanding your money expect to see them open it up to new markets with famous clubs and large fanbases the likes of Boca, Santos etc.

Once you say fuck the game and the local fans how do I make the most money you can see there is untapped oceans of money that these owners are going for. That's before you even get into them making their own international tournaments like WC etc.

Yep. Norwich scarves along with protests only happen when they aren't doing so well.
