The hypocrisy of Sky is absolutely laughable. Wasn't it sky that was charging £15 per game at the start of the pandemic on top of your subscription as they'd be told they could now screen every match!!
And then they were forced to back down as it was a global pandemic and that was just pure greed.

And now they want to complain and be outraged about the ESL for the same things they were doing.

How short are their memories at there mock outrage.
The other party that I think has to be looked at are the executives and even the players. After all, the main costs of all of the football clubs are players' salaries. I know that early in the pandemic there was talk of players agreeing to temporary pay cuts and as far as I'm aware, they didn't budge. Executives at my company took a voluntary 50% pay cut for the first quarter or two, while we figured out the impact on our business. Our CEO even took a 100% salary cut at that point. Once our revenue and profits returned to normal, they then rescinded the cuts. That gesture went a long way to stabilizing the business during the initial downturn and uncertainty that followed.

I don't think it was a "cunning plan" or even a plan at all tbh, but the SL needed as many as it could get, and if the PL was to be involved without breaking the PL, it had to be 6 clubs.

Had the PL not needed 75% to kick the others out, City and Chelsea would never have been invited in the first place imho.
I think you’re right.
Football has eaten itself, or at least attempted to, has not quite succeeded, but will attempt to again soon.
I’m hanging in there but know full well that in the not too distant future I most probably will call time on my enthusiasm for the game.
When it ultimately stops being a sport and is nothing more than a business, I know I won’t give a damn who wins.

Sad but true.

It has shown the difference in ethos the fans and owners have to Football.

To fans it is a cultural and social human endeavour. A focal point to join together to share experiences and comradery, in the same way going to church is for the religious types.

To owners it is an investment, purely. Or more specifically, a return on investment. To ignore what is, in effect, the core of Football is beyond idiotic. This is what happens when they DONT have fan representation on their boards.

This episode has clearly demonstrated the legions of people behind the scenes at these clubs have NO IDEA what Football actually is.

I would hazard a guess that 75% of folk on this message board would have walked away from City if this plan went ahead, maybe some would have been compelled to stay with the club out of loyalty, but most would have walked.... THAT'S how bad this idea is.

Just imagine if Warner Brothers had bought the RSC and, after a review, decided that the income from Hamlet and Macbeth wasn't enough, so they have decided to put on pantomimes and conventions as well, to up the profit margins. There would, and should, be outrage.

Some cultural aspects of society cannot be messed around with for an increase in % to the absent owners (or as I prefer to call them, guardians) of Football clubs.

I understand where you are coming from and hold similar feelings. It will be very difficult if not impossible to not care wether city win or lose though. Too deeply engrained from a young age.
