I haven't watched the u21s in a while. In the mason Townsend times. How many teams are in the leagues? I know formats changed a bit. It would be interesting to see more come through

There are 22 clubs in the League (17 PL, 5 Championship), which were initially split into three groups.

The second stage of the season had the same 22 clubs but seeded into three groups - Elite, Tier 1 & Tier 2.

The third stage is a straight knock-out between the two lower group winners and the winner of this play-off advances to a semi-final against the Elite group winner.

The 2nd and 3rd placed Elite clubs play in the other semi-final.

bales at old traffordthis season was nowhere near as good as agueros and you know it, you could have driven a bus through the whole that bale ran through, aguero did it in a quarter of the space with three defenders for company

I think that we're just going to have to agree to differ...

...both were truly great goals well worthy of beating United at Old Trafford.

Any news on Bale mate? WIll he be injured when we roll up at White Hart lane :-)

Hard to say.

I've heard that he should be in the frame for the City match but I take these things with a pinch of salt.

I've never been big on papers on punditry, but you often see many complaining about it. Some hate that Spurs got attention from the media on here, not sure why really. When the media complains about City you hear loads complain too. Who cares if you just won a title and FA cup? Fuck them all really. We are just as knowledgeable as them twats.

I think that goes with most teams losing their best players, we struggled losing Sandro for a while, we lost Defoe for a couple of months and Dembele has struggled with a hip injury for a long time. Lennon has been in and out a while and now Bale is down. We have been fortunate to keep plodding along. Although there isn't much love for Spurs on here I think it would be better for City if Spurs get fourth ahead of Arsenal, I'm pretty sure Arsenal get an easy fixture list for first group due to being in the competition. Maybe that will go to City instead next time around? Maybe someone can tell me how the format works, but it's probably all fixed anyway!

I agree if Spurs are getting a decent run of good publicity in the media because they are playing well so be it.

I can't understand why people would be upset / begrudge any team if they got some decent publicity either irrespective of whether their own supporters felt it was warranted or not.

What is more important is what the supporters on the whole think about the team , the manager and their short and medium term prospects and the enjoyment that good performances give them etc.

I agree about losing key players and too be honest with the difficulties of the Europa League I think you have done extremely well to be where you are at present.

I don't think you have been fortunate I think you have been well managed and focussed although Arsenal are gaining steam now at the right time.

For me Bale is the FA Player of the year by some margain because of the number of games he has changed in your favour this year through his individual efforts.

The goals he has scored in terms of their individual skill required and difficulty have far outweighed those of RVP and Suarez.

He has hit a new level in his development and if he can continue in this vain will attract interest from the biggest clubs in Europe although I would suggest he has well and truly been on the radar for sometime now.

I want him at City more than any other player but I doubt we will get him and dare I say it he has better choices available to him that us anyway.

Suarez will be the popular choice but RVP will probably win it.

Both us and Manure packed it in Europa wise relatively early last season to focus on the league but Spurs have always assembled strong sides for Europa games this season.

It would be quite an achievement if you could win in Basle or somehow fashion a 3-3 result or the like.

Seedings in the Chumps are based on a number of factors but our coefficient will not be altered to any degree by Spurs coming in for Arsenal say in terms of the pot we would be placed in and the possible teams we would face bar possible one exception if our coefficient was higher than Spurs.

I might be wrong but win Europa and qualify for Chumps and you might be seeded higher than us next year anyway.

As I understand it, Spurs already have a higher UEFA co-efficient than Manchester City, regardless of whether we progress any further in this season's Europa League or if we get Champions League football for next season.

But these things tend to be terribly complex to work-out, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if this transpired to be false....

I think are 1 or 2 points behind. You need to progress against Basel to overtake.

Even if they do overtake us and qualify "luck of the draw " will still play a decent part in seeing which team has a tougher group on paper etc.

A couple of questions for you THFC6061.

Do you think you will finish in the top four this year and why?

Yes, I think we will.

We have six matches left to play and I would expect us to win four of them:

Wigan Athletic away
Southampton home
Stoke City away
Sunderland home

The other two could well be the difference between Champions or Europa League football next season:

Chelsea away
Manchester City home

If we can get two points from those matches we should end the season on 72 points, which has been enough for a Top Four finish in every 38-match Premier League season to date.

In fact, I think 70 points would probably be enough, so that expected away win at Stoke could also be a draw.

Think i'll wait for the usual fuck it up to let in Arsenal and Chelsea into the chumps league. Prove me wrong spuds.

Just on the co-efficients, according to this we are on 70.307, Spurs are on 68.307.

Win at Basel and they will go a point ahead of us (2 points for win, 1 point for progressing). Draw and progress and they will be equal with the chance to get more points in the semi's. Draw and don't progress, or lose and we will be ranked ahead of them.

FWIW we are currently the 18th placed team that is currently in a qualifying position. So topping us might not get you into the second pot.

Disagree with you there 123 and go along with Graph Guy, I think the way Bale left Rio for dead just superb, also showing the world the huge gulf between world class attackers and a very tired centre half.

I know which goal give me the most pleasure. Love Sergio handsome bastard he he.

Thats fair enough and im not disparraging bales goal my point is bale couldnt have done what sergio did , bale left ferdinand for dead no doubt but he did it over half a pitch hed leave most people for dead over that space AND he only left rio for dead the whole was massive, sergio left camelgob, the gurner and welshit in his wake over about 6 or 7 yards and managed to run into the box with welbeck hanging off him and finish into the roof of the net at the keepers near post. My personal opinion is that bale utilised his pace as well he should but it ook alot more to score sergios goal!

Both were fantastic goals we should leave it at that. Made uniteds defence look daft!

Here is a short video of greaves in action with his great goal too, the through ball for the second is sublime too

I very much doubt we'll win all 4 of those fixtures. Remember those two away teams we didn't beat at home (drew Stoke and lost to Wigan), also Southampton look like a tough team to play at the moment.

Luckily I think Chelsea will drop points too with their tough run in but I think whether we finish 4th will depend on our result at Stamford Bridge. Lose, and we will come 5th I think.

Yep underestimating Wigan in relegation battle fight or flight mode and Stoke away is a war of attrition. When the new fixtures come out I always check to see if we have Wigan (and top teams) in the final few weeks. Won't be easy.

What would concern me about Spurs is the goal difference. That's a good indicator of how well a team has been performing over time and is obviously important when points get tied up.

3 Chelsea - 28
4 Tottenham - 15
5 Arsenal - 27
6 Everton - 12
7 Liverpool - 19

Arsenal and Chelsea are quite a distance ahead out of the other contenders. Points are what matters, but it's beginning to look like Spurs are punching above their weight at the moment. If they've got enough in the tank to make this home stretch they'll have broken that barrier holding them back for years as an "almost team".

We have:

Fulham A, Liverpool A, Swansea H, United A, Aston Villa A, Everton H.

With Europa or FA cup matches possibly in-between.

The only one I'm really concerned about is Liverpool away. Fulham are rarely a problem for us, Everton and Swansea at home likewise (away is another story) and United could have won the league by the time we play them, making our game completely irrelevant for them and important for us. Aston Villa for some reason cause us problems away so we could drop points there. We have a lot of away fixtures around our already bloated schedule (especially if we progress in either competition), but the matches themselves aren't so formidable. Liverpool will probably be a loss or at best a draw. The rest are quite winnable.
