The unemployment fudge

No, I've been there and in that position. Don't assume.

Someone being in work regardless of what is always better than someone sat on the dole I get that. So why can you not appreciate the fact that this can create an issue if an employer decides to start being a **** and not letting someone take time off for an interview? That's the reality of this ignorant policy it assumes that everyone will play nicely. In reality they don't.

Not sure why anyone would expect an employer to give time off for an interview. To be honest, I doubt most people want to tell them they are going for an interview and instead pull a sickie.

Wow... So forcing people to educate themselves or gain skills through work under training is a bad thing?

Yep, surely they would be better off unemployed doing nothing instead?

Didn't say that..... But what riles me is that the Government publish stats saying Youth unemployment is down and the UK is the 12th lowest in Europe without stating that 50% of the numbers are removed because they are forced to stay in full time education if they cant find an apprenticeship or traineeship.

You’ll be entitled to holiday regardless.

That's true, but I suspect a lot of people will be thinking that it might not be approved for the specific day, and then of course if not, taking the day off sick looks pretty bad. Thus pulling the sickie.

I literally handle this scenario every single day with candidates.

Normally the potential employer gives me several dates, I go to the candidate with them, who then books a day off or half a day on one of said dates and then we confirm back to the client.

It’s a lot easier than people think.

Fair enough then.

But this government expects people to take any old shit job so they can boast about record unemployment figures. So unless you have parents that have deep pockets or friends in high place then what is the point of going to university to improve your employability. Total waste of time if you are going to end up pulling pints for that cretin at Weatherspoons moron or flipping burgers at McDonaalds

No one is forcing anyone to get a job. They're just saying they won't support people ad infinitum if they don't take one. As someone who in the past both pulled pints and flipped burgers (and went to university), I'm sorry you consider that beneath you.

What some folk appear want is to demand that their degree in Drama Studies should guarantee that they get employed by the Royal
Shakespeare Company, or a starring role in the next Bond film, and that the rest of us pay to keep them on the Old King Cole
until this is granted. If this doesn't happen then the fault lies with the Tories.
