The "which famous person died today" thread

Be careful making jokes about dementia mate,it’s a very cruel disease and one I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.

We all die of something mate and I would think none of it is funny, I am a big dementia care advocate but a bit of humour isn't a bad way to deal with it.

David (Syd) Lawrence, England fast bowler has died aged 61. RIP Syd.

Very sad to hear this, I wasn’t aware he’d been diagnosed with MND.
A genuinely nice guy, until he got the ball in his hand. For a good number of seasons, playing Gloucestershire was a case of just trying to see him off with the new ball.

By all accounts he was a very decent man and as quick a bowler as England had produced for a while. What a bloody awful illness. Doddy, Rob B and now Syd. Very very sad.

By all accounts, in those genetically predisposed, it is more prevalent in those who take part in intensive physical activity. My friend died of it in 2020, aged 50. She was slender, very into sports and gym and otherwise very healthy.

That is very sad mate. Please god someone will find a cure for this awful condition.

She was a hairdresser by trade. When she started dropping things at work (eg hairbrushes) we assumed it was an "occupational hazard" caused by 30 years of repetitive actions.
It's truly horrible the way it creeps up and then takes over. Usually slowly.
