I know the feeling, so many ex workmates and a few boozing mates gone the last couple of years. The thing is in your head you're still 35, it's a shock when somebody younger than you dies, you see their age and realise you're not. Life sure goes fast.

Peter Higgs died yesterday. He envisaged the Higgs bosun as a relatively young physicist and had to wait half a lifetime before the Hadron collider at CERN confirmed its existence. Meanwhile, his idea was accepted widely and formed the basis of our model of the universe. He was awarded the Nobel prize for an idea that he literally wrote down on the back of a fag packet.
RIP Peter Higgs.
