The "which famous person died today" thread

RIP Sly Stone. Personal opinion, but for me, the greatest we've seen in our lifetimes. There's a Riot Going On is my favourite album, the sound of a genius just on the precipice of losing it, but the album caught him just before it happened. It's dark, twisted, fucked up and funky as it's ever been. Properly gutted to hear that tonight (coming out a gig in town)

A cracking album but ‘Stand’ is my fave, Sly and Brian Wilson in the last 24 hours, very sad indeed.

Brian Wilson arguably was one of the most influential musicians of the 20th Century, so I am annoyed his demise wasn’t given a higher priority in the news. Lesser music personalities who passed have been headline news, it can only be that current journalists have no idea who he was.
Journalistic ignorance is rife now.
-The bbc presenter who thought Shirley Bassey was a fake welsh woman. (No black people in Cardiff, apparently!)
-The bbc reporter who pointed at some lads wearing rag scarves and said:
“you see, there are United fans in Manchester.” He was standing outside Salford Boys Club.
-The Times journo who was unaware of any green places in West Yorkshire. She thought it was wall to wall mills.

I can’t think of any more at this early hour, but I’m sure you can…..

Brian Wilson was a literal giant and you're right he didn't get the coverage he deserved to get, if only he had done big brother or eat your own arse island.

Wincey Willis and if you're old enough...... if you know, you know.

Revolutionised (well kind of) weather forecasting on Breakfast Telly in the 80's

Quite liked her back in the day.

She died in 2024.
Aw, it seemed she died in December last year but her death has only just been announced. She was always a cheerful presenter. My sister and I still say “Bordig” to each other, just as Wincey used to say it, every morning:)
It seemed she had dementia, God bless her.
