This transfer window/Marwood

I think the thread is totally relevant.

I dont agree with the outgoings bit as we have created our own monster with the wages we pay and getting rid of these players was always going to be difficult.

I completely agree with the incoming bit. The need for defensive cover was screaming out last year when both Lescott and Kompany were needlessly risked in a europa league game and it almost cost us big time. Surely we have identified more than Agger as cover.

Mancini wants us competing in the CL and yet we have added nothing of any note to help us achieve that. Rodwell/Sinclair (if it happens) are squad additions but are they better than Johnson and De Jong who they are likely to replace?

Yaya going to the Acon wont help again either. We could be left with Barry/Milner and Rodwell. Risky!

7 Days left to sort it out.

I think the time has past for that, very difficult to see us brining in a top player with 7 days to go considering theres no suggestion were in for any top top players.

i know we brought in robinho in very late but that was by chance, madrid could never have said no to our offer and robby would have signed for my local side if the wages were right

We're champions. Marwood's aim is make us the best just as much as any other person in the club. Leave him to do his job and judge him on results, not on whether we spend madly in the transfer window.

If he doesn't reach his target's, his boss will take care of him. If he reaches the targets set by our owners then we have to support the club.

Stop the Marwood agenda. It's as bad as Cook. People want to tarnish the club from within when we've got enough snipers from the opposition.

This.

We don't know what's going on behind the scenes.

yeah out with marwood. the current squad is shit. silva is wank, yaya wank, sergio wank.........get a grip dickhead, we've got one of the best squads in europe. we dont need to spend big, even david moyes said rodwell is a better CB than midfielder and mancini had been trying 3 at the back for the european games.

BTW I'm not necessarily pro-Marwood. I just think even if he's reigned Mancini in to get the books looking healthier(he must have this as a target) then this should be supported.

Oh good. Another Marwood thread.
If he's fucked up he'll be fired and if he hasn't he'll stay. It's very simple really.

Talk about over reacting.

I am sorry but unless you are working for the club and are privy to transfer dealings it is very difficult to criticise from the outside.

I love how you are blaming people for not signing RvP and Hazard or for going for De Rossi. You have no idea what happened with any of these players.

Players are allowed to turn us down and move elsewhere you know.

I agree we need better cb cover but again we could have been trying for months. The ones we could get Mancini might not want them.

For the record I think Maicon and Sinclair will be good signings if they come off.

We are going to be seen as a soft touch on transfers for a while unfortunately, and although we've clearly struggled to off-load players, it can't always be Marwood's fault.

For me, Marwood has a very difficult job. Take Kolarov as an example. A purely Mancini signing, but for many people too slow to play as an orthodox left back in England. If Marwood hadn't backed the signing, he'd be viewed as undermining Mancini. But if Kolarov is now sold before the end of this month, and at a big loss (10m?) on what we paid for him, it would reflect badly on Marwood. Also, Mancini didn't exactly boost Adebayor's re-sale value by stating that he had no chance of ever playing for the club again. I'm not having a go at Mancini, far from it, but it's easy to see how tensions can arise between him and Marwood.

However, I do have two real issues around our dealings in this transfer window.

The first one is the most obvious - the lack of a centre-half being added to the squad. We will hopefully sign someone in the next week, but this should have been a priority and we should have had a deal done by now.

The second one relates to Adam Johnson - if the papers are even half right on this, there are around five clubs interested in signing him, but the best price we can hope to achieve is 10m, just more than we paid for him when he was an uncapped, unproven player from the championship. If the tables were turned and we were one of five clubs interested in this player, we'd probably end up paying around 16 or 18m for him. Trying to sell Wayne Bridge is one thing, but the price we get for Johnson - a genuinely marketable asset - should give us a good indication of Marwood's abilities.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if Marwood goes before next summer. We have a new CEO, and I'm amazed at how little attention this has received. It's being kept low key for a reason - possibly to avoid creating another Garry Cook situation, but also to allow the new man to look at the club, it's structure and personnel.

There have been strong rumours about City appointing this CEO and also the former football director from Barcelona (can't remember/spell his name). If it's a done deal that we do appoint this director, and given the tensions with Mancini, then Marwood is obviously toast. But why not leave him in charge for another transfer window to clear-up the mess left by Hughes (and himself) before appointing the new guy? Slightly machiavellian, but this would be my bet.

Whatever anyone argue our strategy has been all wrong.

Waiting to shift the dead wood has made us miss out on our first choices, and means we'll over pay for worse quality players in the last week of the window
