This transfer window/Marwood

barcelona bought sanchez and fabregas the year they won the treble.

And what did they win after doing that?

I don't get it. We have a team that put together a Man City team that has won a league title, FA Cup and community shield. The transfer window doesn't end for over another week, surely they've earned the right for us all to stop flapping until the end of the window at least.

They won 4 trophies. But I know what you mean, they missed their two targets - however they were seriously unlucky with some lengthy injuries last season (Villa, Sanchez, Puyol, Pedro, Afellay, Pique).

Standing still is never ever a good idea in football, history has surely shown us it. The Invincibles are the greatest example but Blackburn are another.

Whatever anyone argue our strategy has been all wrong.

Waiting to shift the dead wood has made us miss out on our first choices, and means we'll over pay for worse quality players in the last week of the window
Yep. You're right.
Sack the board. Fuckin clueless cants whatever are they thinking.

I'm with you Moomba. Trouble is, we have gotten used to big name signings in the last few summer transfer windows! We have just won the league and the squad is good enough we just need a couple of tweaks to improve things. Like others have said, who knows what has been going on in the background? Players that Mancini wanted may have been too greedy, selling clubs trying to take the piss or just plain unavailable. FFP is a reality and we can't be seen to being blase about it. Sadly getting the deadwood off the books has been difficult an hamstrung us to some degree.

So do I. I don't think that I have changed my location status since I joined BM. Back in 2005 it was obviously done with irony. Now, it reads like I am being smug. Long may it continue. I don't share the pessimissism that some of the hysteria mongers are currently displaying.

8 days before the end of the transfer window, why would you assume we're standing still?

I CANT believe some people what are you expecting hollywood signings every summer at city.It hasnt always worked like robinio adebayor or jo so its good that city are being more prudent

Remember last 2 summer transfer windows mancini bought savic and kolorov 4 the defence as cover so hopefully 3rd time lucky mancini

slowly but surely we will slurp them up

Selling Adebayor, Weiss & loan of Bridge. Quite happy with that

I'm not so much bothered about City not signing star players. It's not easy to bring stars in when they might struggle to start or compete with existing players. I didn't want RVP for that reason, and I think hazard was also worried about starting in our team? Maybe

But I will be gutted IF we sell AJ and De Jong and bring in Sinclair and Rodwell as replacements. We will have thrown our dominance away for nothing and that wont be Marwood's fault, it will be mancini's fault. I am certain that any player sales must be approved by mancini first. I can just about accept AJ going (if he wants out) even though we could easily get £15m for him (£10m is a joke), but selling De Jong will seriously damage City's chances of competing for the title. We will likely lose at Anfield if Rodwell plays instead of De Jong.

The City team that won the title was so good. It should last for more than 12 months, but I can't believe that the season is barely over and we are seemingly going to sell 2 of its players and replace them with Rodwell and Sinclair.

Looks like AJ wants out. He doesn't want to be a squad player and wants to move on? Sinclair would seem to be a good enough replacement. Don't want to see NDJ go though. There are definately times when we need his bite in midfield.

Marwood simply carries no clout with the agents or representatives of top players. He has no influence or leverage with other teams to get his foot in the door and I honestly believe he is a serious handicap to our progress. With the new CEO due on 1 September, I hope Marwood is gone by the next window. Our three priorities for a top CB, central midfielder and wide man should have been identified and in place for the start of the season. I'd start setting your alarm a little earlier each day Mr Marwood as the clock is ticking down.

Would not surprise me if Begiristain replaces Marwood when Soriano enters the corridors of power. Experienced in the director of football role, identifying top players and closing deals to sign them.

From earlier this year:

Former Barcelona Director of Football Txiki Begiristain is considering offers from Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City, as he mulls over a prospective move to England, reports talkSPORT.

According to Catalan newspaper Sport, the 47-year-old, who enjoyed a successful seven-year spell at the Camp Nou, has been identified by three of the Premier League's leading clubs as the man to take them to the next level.

Begiristain oversaw a series of massive transfer coups at Barcelona, including deals which brought Samuel Eto'o and Ronaldinho to Spain, and is widely regarded as a major driving force behind the La Liga club's current standing as the greatest team in the world.

Marwood is not even in his league and as a club surely we want the very best.

Eto'o played in spain for a few years before he went to barca and then they sold him on to inter in one of the worst bits of business i have ever seen in the ibra deal. No matter who comes into city we still won't have the pulling power of barca at the minute but it would be nice to get a more football experienced man in to take care of transfers. If he worked well with our new ceo then i would expect us to be in the driving seat for his services if true. Hopefully with his contacts in the game he can deliever a few bigger players and make the transfers go a bit smoother

Agree with that Marwood's skills will be shown on how much he asks for AJ.

If I remember right AJ had only half year on his contract (!!!) when M'boro charged us for 7m+1m.

Now he has contract until 2015 maybe and we ask 10m for him? Surely he was an unknown player that time, had some good Championship matches and that's all. Since then he is international player, became better, improved some level surely playing with players like Silva, Yaya etc.

Came for 8m with a nearly expired contract, and now goes for 10m. Even if we dont need him we should ask 15m at least.

That what we would be charged again if we were looking to get Sinclair with many years on his contract.

Why is it whenever anyone offers genuine criticism of the club some posters react like this.

It's like RAWK on here sometimes, you discuss genuine concerns about the lack of transfer activity and the happy clappers descend on the thread in droves to hound you off and close the thread.
