Thomas Tuchel | England Manager

Who is left on the managerial merry-go- round for the rags if Tenbob gets the shove? Tuchel probs had a look and thought I will take this poisoned chalice and at least I can swerve the swamp.

Our prime minister already had his police force working like the Gestapo, so why not get a German in charge of the footy team

Seriously though, I don't get the uproar about his nationality. We just haven't got any top quality English managers. You can put that down to the way the Premier league operates, or simply put it down to us lacking in that department. It doesn't matter either way. There's a world cup in less than two years and no English candidate that seems an attractive choice, so we've gone with a proven winner.

It's only sport, does it matter if the manager of the team wasn't born here? There's no rules to say the national team has to be managed by a citizen of that country.

We haven't got any top class managers or coaches have we?

The last English manager to win the top flight was Howard Wilkinson in 1992, the last manager to win a trophy in England was Harry Redknapp with Portsmouth in 2008.

The last manager to win a trophy overseas was Graham Potter, who choked under the pressure at Chelsea. Not sure he'd be any better for England than the bloke he succeeded at Chelsea.
And?

If we don't have a top class striker should we blag a Brazilian one, this is kind of the point.

The authorities should never have allowed it in the first place, most big international teams go with the spirit of the game.

We haven't been a big international team for a while though.

We haven't been a big international team for a whike though.
The French have half of Africa playing for them.

Players have always had to qualify to play for a country, whilst managers do not.

Whilst one can bemoan the “spirit of the game”, it’s a pretty moot point.

Until it is a prerequisite that a manager has to be from the nation they manage, country’s FAs will tend to hire the best available.

Has to win the World Cup or we will go back to any decent English manager available.

Sad to say, but the FA should be mandated to hire an English manager. I’m not saying he wouldn’t do his best against Germany in the World Cup Final, but…

“Coming home…?” We can’t even float a decent manager for the National Team job!!

Many pundits singing Tuchel’s praises for out smarting Guardiola in the CL final. Seem to forget that Pep out smarted himself on that occasion with his bizarre team selection.

Maybe

Or maybe he thought Tuchel is a good manager and overthought it more than he usually might. Either way, they won, we lost. Outsmarted is probably not correct but he got over the line as the underdog in a major final. Can't knock that

Perhaps had Rudiger rightly been sent off for that disgraceful attack on KDB, things might have turned out differently.

And I don't recall the Chelsea team playing " spectacular " football. More efficient and capable imo.

Do they though? They're all French citizens of African descent. You could apply that to plenty of English players too with families from from Africa, Jamaica etc.

I'm sure those French players consider themselves as French, it's where they grew up and it's their nationality.

It's not the same thing as having your national team managed by someone who wouldn't qualify to play as a player. That's the point people are making.

Not that it bothers me that England have a foreign manager, but you can't compare it to someone like Mbappe who was born and raised in France to African parents.

I never said they couldn't do it, not sure where you thought i did, some are fine with it others aren't for the reasons mentioned.

I’m hearing a lot about him being foreign, German. It’s not as if he’s the first Johnny to get the gig.
Also, what Englishman wouid they rather have? Bottom line is, the best players and managers in the Prem don’t come from England.

Who are the real English options?

Just enjoying the various meltdowns from all the patriots.
Times change. Who’d of thunk it.
Our national league is full from top to bottom with clubs owned, managed and played by overseas personnel. Why on earth people should be shocked at an overseas manager of the national team seems like getting upset for getting upsets sake.
Should be a fun 18 months. :-)
