Three years of bad transfer dealings

Whether we like it or not, there’s only ever been Paisley and Ferguson who managed to keep winning titles, yet at the same time rebuild/reconstruct/overhaul their playing staff.

Older fans will remember Keegan and Toshack winning the European Cup in 1977. Funny because both players were sold in their late 20s and replaced by arguably better players.

I always thought that Jimmy Case was a grisly old veteran, but Liverpool sold him at 27.

It was the same at United with Beckham, Stam and Ince. Remember the uproar when they sold Kanchelskis? Even when the overrated French prick announced his retirement they won the treble the following year.

For some reason City keep falling at the first hurdle when it comes to recycling talent. The team isn’t evolving and we appear too obsessed with replacing our fringe players, whilst ignoring the worrying trend that some of our better players are starting to go backwards.

FFP didnt force us to spend 32,000,000 on Manfala.
It did mean that we only had the money to strengthen one area though and we all agree centre half was our priority this year. You may argue that we don't have to spend 30 million on a player but that is what this thread is about, we do to get decent players. We need money to spend 30 million on a centre half and a centre mid. They're the ones that change us. Man gala will come good I have no doubt about that, one 30 million player a windows isn't enough though sadly, look at how much Madrid etc. Spend a year to stay up there.

The priorities have been getting finances in check, come summer and us making a profit we will be back in there getting the best.

Very good point.

I just want to reiterrate that FFP has done nothing to us, yet. We have still been spending hugely but on hugely dissappointing players. You don't spend 40 million on one defender and then cry FFP. This is as a result of poor recruitment practices by the club. Fucking 30 mil for Jo.

I sometimes wonder and think, why when we have a team that has the likes of Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Silva, Nasri, Yaya and Aguero are we not doing more than what we have achieved so far.?

All of those players arrived before 2011 and we are now in 2015 and we have failed to support those players with more quality to progress in europe and dominate the English league.

We have won 2 leagues on the last day against two teams who as proved by the following season were nowhere near the quality of past premier league title challengers and two domestic cups. We have been utterly pathetic in Europe.

It seems silly to say this but this club has underachieved with the cluster of players above and that is something which i think we will come to regret in future years.

It all started in that summer of 2012 when we failed to progress by bringing in Sinclair, Maicon and Rodwell and you only have to have a look at the so called top sides best 6 signings over the last two seasons to see that we have done so poorly in comparison.

Chelsea - Costa, Fabregas, Luis, Willian, Matic, Schurrle.

United - Di Maria, Falcao, Blind, Herrera, Shaw, Mata

City - Mangala, Fernando, Cabellero, Navas, Fernandinho, Jovetic.

Barca - Suarez, Neymar, Rakitic, Mathieu, ter Stegen, Vermaelen.

Madrid - Rodriguez, Kroos, Bale, Isco, Carvajal, Navas (gk)

Bayern - Benatia, Alonso, Lewandowski, Gotze, Thiago, Bernat

I think Fernandinho is the only one who the others would even attempt to sign where as we would take 4/5 or even all of the others signings.

Whatever it is - bad dealing or FFP restrictions we really need a summer of big business, if we want to be considered a true big club.

blaming transfers is wrong i forget but we won something last year

Down to manager and players

FFP has definitely impacted on us however we now need to put up or shut up. 2nd rate purchases will not regain the Premier League. Our squad needs recycling this Summer with 5 or 6 replacements for Kolarov, Navas, Milner, Boyata, Fernando and Jovetic. Players must be upgrades not squad players or we will continue plateau. I'm really appreciative of what we have seen over the past few years but I now want more, we have all the infrastructure for a top table team, the transfer plan has to reflect other areas of our business now. I don't want to see Milner leave but it looks like his time at the Etihad is coming to an end, shame.

We've done shocking in the market. Put us back a couple of years Imo. We're now goin to be back to the Hughes era where we have overpaid deadwood in the squad that wont want to leave as they're on good contracts.

we are a top table team though. We have the players last years league win proves that. No team in the world has world class players in every position, I think it would be stupid to spend 40m on every player. The squad we have now is strong enough

The way I think we need to go about our business instead of looking good at improving fringe players is to buy players that are better than our starting 11, then our original player becomes the fringe. Therefore what we thought was our best is what we have to fall back on.
