Ticket queues in Glasgow

Did anyone show their wristband outside the ground? Or were you asked to?

I wasn't asked. Just showed my ticket.

The same happened in Madrid.

The stewards aren't interested in checking wristbands. No doubt the same will happen in Barcelona.

So there's no need for a wristband. Getting rid of the wristbands is one way to speed the ticket collection up.

Personally I don't mind picking my ticket up in the destination,it's proved it does work, hence the low ticket points required for a champions league q.v. & sf last season.if youde prefer a ballot where its unfair to everyone who's been following city for years,I'm sure the club would look into it,in the Maine road days we had to queue for hours for most away tickets !!
Of course it is

Let me tell you a story.....
Think of Mr Corporate as Tom Hanks in Cast Away talking to his basketball Wilson

Are we sitting comfortably @didsburyblu @mancitymick @Bilboblue @Danamy ?
Mr Corporate has a box at City, when the draw is made he is asked would he like tickets for any of the games. "Aye" he says, "I'll take five for the Celtic game at Parkhead.
"You do realise we will need their names and you will have to collect the tickets in Glasgow and show ID?"
"Fuck off Wilson, I'm not doing that, do you really think my clients are going to do that? Any way I'm not sure who will be going yet as plans may change on the day and they might not go so someone else may go.
"Sorry" says Wilson, "that's now club policy"
Mr Corporate gets angry and puffs out his chest " you do know how much business I bring you, I get at least five tickets for most game!, I'm not doing it, you'll have to give me the tickets and the wristbands before I go. If not I'm going to puncture you".
Wilson relents, gives Mr Corporate his five tickets, his five wristbands and he hands them out to his clients.

So much for making sure tickets go to the 'right' people. Next time you fall short of a ticket for a big game send your thanks to Mr Corporate and the basketball.

A true story dat

Exactly what I was thinking it's nonsense to think this is some kind of fair policy from City because they completely move the goalposts for the corporates or anyone willing to pay enough money. Took away loads of the overall enjoyment of a great away day yesterday and more annoying is how the club seemingly couldn't give a shit or even communicate with the fans. Nowhere near as frustrating or as important but another example of them not giving a toss is not being able to drive up to the club shop or ticket office any more on a none match day.

Ironically, I was asked 3 times within the space of 5 minutes last night, (just outside the stadium)
Never been asked once on previous trips.

I had to show my ticket and wristband

However the wristband is a waste of time. Could easily be cut and transferred to someone else with a bit of tape or staple holding it together. Only had to flash it to the person checking

It doesn't stop you buying league away tickets getting the points, flogging it to your mates and there is 4 times as many games

Your wasting your breath mate.
I made exactly the same point a few weeks ago, but some people just don't get the logic.
In fact, the £30 cap on away tickets has increased the market. I've already received requests from mates, checking that I'm definitely going to West Brom and Burnley

Stop going on about this "quote". It's not relevant, it's just a lunge for the moral high ground. It's Chinese Whispers on a forum. I'd bet my bottom dollar that it was either never said, or is being quoted totally out of context.
It was said to me and my mate. I don't appreciate being called a liar either!

Its about absolute control of people and an extension of the thinking that if you are a football fan then you are obviously guilty of something so lets make it as difficult as possible for you. Im certain the Police both local and GMP have an input as well.
Like I've said, i dont go but if i did, i certainly wouldn't given these draconian measures, especially given what its costing as well.

The club is begging us to embrace the competition yet they think shit like this is the way to go about it?

No. The club is begging us to embrace it at home as they are pissed off with the empty seat jibes when applied to the erm "most prestigious tournament in club football". They couldn't give a fuck about a huge degree of inconvenience for a couple of thousand fans standing in the Glaswegian rain.
We got to the back of the queue a couple of minutes before 3 and emerged with tickets 80 minutes later.
The hall was sufficiently large for them to have three times as many people giving out tickets, but the incompetence of some at the club knows no bounds so too few staff were employed. It was a a farce, but at least it wasn't a surprise.
And why not stack tickets alphabetically instead of having to consult a laptop for every transaction?
Most in the queue think it's a good idea but badly implemented, and several said they wouldn't object to some sort of spot check at domestic away games to stop the point whores.

But the present format is just shitting on our own support. And don't get me started on 100 to 200 tickets being siphoned off from our reduced allocation at Spuds for another City in the City event where a grand total of zero points are required to obtain a ticket.

Because you can still sell your ticket to someone. It won't stop points whores

See my last post.

In theory you still have to wear your wristband to get into the ground.

So even if you did sell your ticket on, the person buying it won't and shouldn't be able to get into the ground without a wristband.

In reality we all know wearing and showing a wristband outside the away end is a pointless exercise brought in by the club. How often are they checked? They weren't last night.

And let's be honest. 99.9% of City fans who bought a ticket went. They weren't going to buy a ticket to sell it on, and to miss City play Celtic at Celtic Park. Why?

To offer a different view point on this, a friend of mine works for a company that have corporate seats in the Colin Bell stand. Long standing, established Manchester company so a very good corporate client for the club.

For the Real Madrid semi, my friend asked for 6 tickets and got them no problem. But he had to submit the names of the people the tickets were for and they had to be collected through the usual channels in Madrid and proof of identity was needed.

To add to this, and the increasing hurdles being put before us, they continue to merrily hand out tickets and wristbands on the Thomas Cook package mid-flight - it wouldn't surprise me to see TC travel banners on social media news feeds blatantly advertising "avoid the queues in the cold and the rain"
At least those on the TC travel weren't adding to the queues.

WTF they hand out City tickets regardless of who's who? Is that why there's always the same clusters of empty seats in the North stand?
You still have to produce your ID on their trips.
Use them when I can't be arsed sorting anything else out.
It's not just City by all accounts - but they needed more staff yesterday for sure.

Ironically, I was asked 3 times within the space of 5 minutes last night, (just outside the stadium)
Never been asked once on previous trips.
I wasn"t asked.

I just held my ticket up and went through the stewards.

Perhaps I just got lucky?

Still got my wristband on. :-)

I was asked to show the wristband on two occasions at the ground last night. The only other away Euro I've seen since this system was introduced was PSG and I wasn't asked to show it even though general security seemed much higher in Paris.

A pound to a penny that they're soon going to start the same system they have at the rags where random buyers are told that have to collect their ticket at the away ground and prove they're the buyer.

I travel to a lot of Scotland away matches and when points whoring became an issue, they introduced a random collection process where about 10% of those travelling have to pick their ticket up in person. Surely a scheme like this where a percentage have to pick up, cuts out some of the points whoring and cuts down the queue.

It was said to me and my mate. I don't appreciate being called a liar either!

I don't know whether you're a liar or not because you're a stranger on a forum. But having spent too much time on here I'm not going to believe that quote without hearing the other side of the story and the context. And it doesn't change the point anyway: it's a straw man argument, it isn't relevant, it's a "Do Not Pass Go" free ticket to the moral high ground, which everyone uses in a "won't somebody think of the children" manner when they feel wronged.

It's nothing personal mate, it's just my experience of the internet and the context in which quotes are used. And just to be clear, I'm outraged at this "pick up "system.

A pound to a penny that they're soon going to start the same system they have at the rags where random buyers are told that have to collect their ticket at the away ground and prove they're the buyer.

Perhaps if the Ticket Office communicated their reasons and motives?
We might nor like it, but at least we'd know why it was imposed.

Did anyone show their wristband outside the ground? Or were you asked to?.

Ish.. there was three staggered lines of security / police with one or two asking, however everyone was just walking past them without being stopped. Very similar to Lokeren

You mean just like normal people?
Well I never.
