Tokyo 2020 Olympics/Paralympics

Rugby sevens - GB got beaten fairly comfortably by NZ, judging by the scoreline.

9.30 - bronze medal match - GB vs Argentina
10.00 - gold medal match - Fiji vs NZ

Thanks for that. Just had a breathless hour getting ready, driving somewhere and still managing to see most of both of those matches.

Sad news about Biles.

The pressure placed on these young athletes must be enormous. Biles situation like that of Osaka is particularly sad because they have had success they have had the pressure and have eventually buckled. Mental health is as precious and delicate as physical health but because it has no visible wounds people like Moron and other cunts weigh in with their opinions which are invalid because they have never and will never experience the pressures these sports people are under. In the case of Moron there is the form there in that both are female and black and the Duchess of Sussex is well aware of what that combo does to his mind.

I didn't see the final, but I saw her in qualifying and she didn't look right then. Still excellent, but she made mistakes on a number of her performances, which suggests that she was struggling. There's every chance that she didn't feel right after the qualifying and decided to see how it went in the final. When it was obvious she was still having problems, she pulled out to give the team the best chance of winning.

We all know what a difference mental health and mental focus can make to sports people's performances. Just look at the transformation of John Stones. And let's not forget, she's not exactly young in gymnastics terms. Most of the other finalists were in their mid to late teens. She's 26. It's very difficult for anyone to keep going for that long at the very highest level.

Agree with that, although she's 24, not 26. The hype and expectation that surrounds her must be pretty tough to deal with, and a drop from the very highest level might have been the tipping point.

The 'give it a go' seems reasonable as a theory - I think the toing and froing is what gave the story legs. On the face of it, it does look a bit strange to leave, then come back, and only later put the tracksuit on, and give an interview to camera with the team at the end. I assume the US coaches are very careful after the previous scandal, and knew what they were doing - I suspect the team is very close too, so she wanted to help if she could (as cover for an injury maybe, but as an emergency only).
