Toni Kroos

If Yaya is going to leave, I think Kroos is the man most capable of replacing him.

Of course they are very different players, but I think Kroos will be the best midfielder in Europe for the next 5 years. His passing range is on a par with Pirlo and Scholes, and his ability to dictate games is potentially up there with Xavi and Yaya himself. It's interesting to note he's completed more passes than any other player in the World Cup.

Losing Yaya means we would be losing that physicality and power, but I think Fernando will bring this, and Kroos could potentially be even better than Yaya at running games through his passing.

Of course it looks very likely he will remain at Bayern, but if his contract issue is not resolved, he only has one year left on his contract. If we sold Yaya for 35m and offered 45m for Kroos I think we'd get him.

It would be a lot of money for Bayern to turn down for a player they could potentially lose for nothing in 12 months. If we sell Yaya, I'm sure Kroos would be more than happy with his 250k a week.

Imagine if you could buy a 24 year old Xavi, who was bigger, stronger and more suited to the English game. That's Toni Kroos.

1. Probably will require a 3 man midfield and a wide forward to compensate for physicality and lesser goal output
2. That is way too much for someone who is in the last year of his contract and is probably at or very near his peak. 20-25 million pounds is much more reasonable and likely
3. Too much IMO. You want him to be paid more than Silva and Sergio. 200k including massive bonuses is more likely

I agree that for Yaya's primary role in the team Kroos is the closest substitute, but regardless, I think he wants to/will go to Real.

You misspelt Vidal

Not really. Depends on what you see Yaya's role in the team. Some see him as a box to box midfielder driving his team on from the base of midfield. While thats true, that's his secondary role and it happens sporadically.

Primarily though, Yaya is our main playmaker. All moves go through him. He dictates the temp. For that role, Kroos is the most near substitute.

Ofcourse Vidal is a great player in his own right. His pressing, stamina, work rate, and mobility are all better than Yaya. I really think he is the premier box to box midfielder in the world. But his passing and creativity in terms of a play maker are not there. Of course, if City choose to rely on Silva and Nasri to create then having two hardworking B2B midfielders like Fernandinho and Vidal behind the front 4 with a slight change in style might pay off.

£45 mil for someone in the last year of his contract? Seriously? Not seen much of Kroos, but is he as good as everyone makes out? I've heard he's pretty slow and that apart from passing and the occasional long shot, there's not much more to his game. Like Schweinsteiger but without the defensive capabilities.

You could say the same about Xavi, Pirlo, Scholes...

Looks like Real have agreed a deal to sign him for just £20m (1 year left on contract) according to tomorrow's Marca. Shame, I would have loved him here if Yaya leaves... no young midfielder is better at running/controlling a game than Kroos and that quality is what we'll badly need to replace if Yaya leaves the club.

Di Maria is an awesome player who would enrich our attacking options, but not someone who would replace Yaya's ability to pass, retain possession and control the game in central midfield.

At least United didn't get him.
