This thread is embarrassing to read as a City fan, hearing people squabble and trying to justify why they went to the game and why they didn't. Nobody should have to justify themselves or be subject to ridicule or hatred if their answer is met with distain.

I agree, in principle, to the issue that Kiam was trying to highlight. But so many people have a variety of various other commitments that stand in the way of attending (mainly) night matches and people who have these issues shouldn't be questioned whatsoever. Whether it be children and a school night, cashflow problems, other arrangements that you can't get out of...they are unquestionable. But for people who say they just couldn't be arsed...if you had the cash and just couldn't be arsed then shame on you. Where's the definition of loyalty in that? And where's the definition of loyalty in saying you will attend the Cup Final but won't bother going to any of the games in the lead-up to that? You should want to and be happy to go and support your football team at all times, whether it be the Premier League, the Carling Cup, the F.A. Cup and so on. Will you be saying 'ah I can't be arsed' when the rags come to Eastlands in April? I highly doubt it...

I think the club should implement some kind of system, based on loyalty points, for the Cup games, to try and encourage supporters to attend (and no, not the recent direct debit scheme, something where you get the first couple of rounds free for season tickets and perhaps an elevated price as we progress).

I'm not bothered if anybody shoots me down for writing my opinion. I have no job and am struggling on jobseekers allowance after graduating from university during the recession (and I job hunt every single day). It was a struggle to pay for my season ticket this year and I went last night because almost every single penny of my jobseekers goes towards following City (I'm lucky that I still live at home with hardly any bills in that respect). I was bored senseless with the football on show last night but...it's City and I went. There was a time when I went to every game home and away, and in Europe, but money now permits that. I have to watch the majority of away games on Sky Sports or Iraq Goals (lol) until my personal situation gets better. So whether you went to Schalke, or Lincoln away, or Wembley in 1999, don't use those games as a weapon in this vacuous thread, you don't need to justify your support. Just show it whenever you possibly can.

Mark Hughes is showing respect to the Cup by fielding his full-strength side, shouldn't we show the same respect and try to show our full-strength support when it permits us too?

Emily, that is one superb post! Now if Kiam had posted something like that as his OP (which he could have; it's what he meant, after all), he wouldn't have got such angry responses, but he posted it in inflammatory terms, deliberately so I feel. That's what I don't like. However, even though his post has a qualification that if you have a valid reason it still comes across as though he's the one to judge its validity; no wonder people got so angry at its self-satisfied and judgemental tone (including those with valid reasons, like the guy in Southampton with an income tax problem who Kiam proceeded to sneer at).

Oh, I didn't go to the Fulham game either, and I won't be going to Wet Spam, but as a disabled ST holder with a serious illness who finds it tough to cope with evening fixtures even the Fan Police led by Kiam might accept that as a valid reason! Judging by some of his replies, though, I'm none too sure!

PS I've got Sky Sports, but didn't watch the raggety rag game so does that get me some brownie points?...:0)

24,000 , I know Fulham brought only 91 fans but still the stay away fans tonight should be ashamed of themselves. We have waited years to get some money and a decent team together and still have the fans can't be arsed turning up, it makes me mad. Even the club do there bit and reduce the ticket prices to £12 Adults and £5 for kid and yet you lazy twats can't be arsed. No excuse stay aways.

To all the people who stayed away for invalid reasons can I just say..

You are a joke

Don't bother turning up for the Premier League games, you don't deserve to be there.

Taking at least a full day's unpaid leave, at short notice and in a particularly busy period, is (unfortunately) a valid reason.

Of course, you personally could just have cough up the £175 I'd have lost from taking at least a day off work – plus picking up the work I had to do. I'll grant you that the train fare and hotel could have been paid by me.

As with last season (and the one before etc etc), I'll be able to make a few midweek games – and I'll take the time off and lose the money and pay my way in order to do that.

But you presume a little bit too much to lecture – and abuse – people whose reasons and personal situations you know absolutely nothing about.

Re: Tonight's stay aways should hang their heads....

I was there. Don't tell me what I should want to do.

And don't presume to tell others either. If they didn't want to go to what turned out to be an awful game then that's up to them.

People are not uber-fans because they have 37 shirts and have photos with the players.[/quote]

I'm stating my opinion that's all. I'm not telling anybody how to do anything. Everybody is entitled to an opinion, simple. And it was an awful game yeah and not really worth almost missing the final train from Piccadilly, but that's City for you! =)
