Tony Towers?

Similar type of player to Michael Johnson. Most memorable moment for me was when he scored against Wolves (we won 5-2 in the most skilful game of football I've seen in the flesh). He hit a volley from about 35 yards, looked to be heading towards row Z then dipped at the last second. Bloke next to me screamed "What a fu*king waste.... fantastic goal!!!!"
Great Post.

Once wrote to the club as a kid to ask for him to be dropped because I didn't rate him???? (What does an eight year old know) Got a letter back from Tony Book telling me politely that I was talking shit. I can see it now but oh the folly of youth.
Brilliant.

I was in Killarney a couple of weeks ago and met a fellow Blue on the same trip.
He was about 4 years older than me and couldn't remember Michael Robinson.
Now I know he wasn't with us very long, but still...
I'm sure Michael Robinson scored against utd in the 80s ?
1 nil win Maine Rd? Always remember his big beaming smile..
Ended up at Brighton iirc.......probably played and scored against us at the old Goldstone ground
A proper ground that.not silly arena they play in now
Times change.

1979. Just looked it up. It was my first Manchester Derby match. 2-0. Henry and Robinson.

I quite like their new stadium, in fact I’m off down there in an hour. From what I recall the Goldstone Ground was a right shithole. Got 2 memories of it, first one was a 4 0 battering, the other one was a one nil win with a late Kevin reeves goal and it was absolutely pissing down the whole match and the away end at the lovely goldstone ground had no roof - and iirc it was the game before Luton relegated us

The day I was convinced we were going to win the league
Apart from his goal my memories are Frannys hat trick and the North Stand furst season and all standing and it being “our end” for that season
Plus Freddie Hill

Was always the 1st name on team sheet v Everton, always played very well against Alan Ball ....yes that one :)

Probably the best 'man to man' marker I've ever seen. Joe knew that Dave Connor would never lose his man.

Alan Ball is probably still looking over his shoulder in his grave, waiting for Dave to tackle him.

I remember he scored the winning goal against Academica in a Cup Winners Cup tie. Wasn't the match delayed when Academica turned out in a all black kit, that clashed with the refs, and didn't have a change kit with them. Can't remember if City loaned them a change or the refs changed.
IIRC the ref and linos changed.
Academica players came out and threw flowers to the fans around the ground.
Then proceeded to kick the shit out of every City player.
And TT's goal was a screamer!

I only went there once on the open side terrace in 80s
Under Machin iirc. We lost I think.

I remember watching him for Eng u15 at Old Trafford and was super proud to find out he was signing for City.
Made the first team quite quickly and think he could have been easily good enough to be a regular. Better than Horswill who came the other way from Sunderland but on the other hand him going did help us to sign Dennis Tueart as I remember.

As John Motson said " That's a goal to grace any Derby game " !
