Top 105 Guitarists - The Winner page 33

I got six in the top 100 which given I'm not really rock orientated I think is a reasonable return.

The six that got in: Buddy Guy, Steve Cropper, SRV, BB King, Hendrix, Marr

The four that didn't: Joe Pass, Path Metheny, Bert Jansch, Nile Rodgers

Looking down the full list, really surprised that Fripp was only at #157

Can't argue too much with Page winning, a brilliant guitarist and part of an excellent band.

My list changed a few times, but I reflected upon who inspired me to play more than who I consistently listened to, or who my favourite bands are and submitted the below. Santana and Clapton were original inspirations before I discovered anyone else and listened to their music. For anyone who hasn't heard "The Calling" by Santana and Clapton, give it a listen.

1. Carlos Santana
2. Eric Clapton
3. Mark Knopfler
4. Dave Gilmour
5. Jimmy Page
6. Kirk Hammett
7. Slash
8. Jimmy Hendrix
9. Richie Blackmore
10. Stevie Ray Vaughan

My favourite ten as submitted.

Carlos Santana - 10 POINTS
Jimmy Hendrix - 9 POINTS
Steve Hacket - 8 POINTS
Steve Howe - 7 POINTS
Jeff Beck - 6 POINTS
Angus Young - 5 POINTS
Eddie Van Halen - 4 POINTS
Jimmy Page - 3 POINTS
Robert Fripp - 2 POINTS
Buck Dharmer -1 POINT

So you were the other person to vote for Buck, who I often claim is the most underrated rock guitarist and this poll does nothing much to dispel that claim.

Is the right answer
Don’t know all slide guitars sound great yet the same to me. When I was about 16 I went around saying Micky Moody was the best slide player then later realised ,to me , they all sound the same.Do still like George Thorogood live though.

I concur. I’m surprised at several placings, however, my ten were the guitarists that seem to be so joyful whenever they’re playing.

Joe Walsh's slide guitar sound is very distinctive. I reckon I can spot Ry Cooder's too.

Not sure how many of my 10 got in in the end but mine were:

Bernard Sumner
Robert Kodym
Martin Barre
James Dean Bradfield
Peter Terrell
Vini Reilly
Martyn Bates
John Frusciante
Pete Townshend
Jimmy Page
