Tories win Copeland b-election.

There's a few at the top of Labour that don't come across as particularly pleasant. Corbyn, Abbot, McDonnell and Watson. Now of course, that should have no bearing on whether Labour will get back into power; it should be all about policies, not personalities. But we are all aware (well; all apart from the members of the Labour party) that if the great unwashed see someone as untrustworthy or (in some way) "not nice", that may well impact on how they vote. People can be very shallow.
There's nothing remotely shallow about not voting for people you don't like. It's an entirely natural human reaction.

I view the whole anti-Corbyn stance by the mainstream media in much the same way as I see their anti-City rhetoric. Widespread negativity in the media doesn't change our perception of City - in fact we dig-in and react accordingly (supporters that is, rather than our passive Club officials).

I get the impression that Labour is trying to do the same - ie fuck-off Murdoch et al, you can peddle your lies, misinform your moronic audiences, but you don't tell us who leads our party you bunch of twats.

Sadly this is not likely to be a fight that they will ultimately win.

The polishing, refinement and preparation of Dianne Abbot into a future Party Leader might at least give a little optimism that a brighter future lies ahead.

I hope so because the current free rein position of the Conservatives (as with any Party in their dominant position) is a worrying scenario.

You are definitely bating with that post. Dianne Abbott next leader and optimism. She could not even spell leader.

Media myths of the biased right wing press. The BBC is so left wing it's untrue. I suppose the guardian is well balanced in its views.

Sorry but humour doesn't always come across on a forum, so this is a genuine question: Was that a joke?

The Grauniad spouts left-wing-biased complete bollocks, day in day out.

Typical. They'll claw back a few hundred grand fleecing unsuspecting taxpayers who strayed into the lane, then hail it as a roaring success.

On the positive side, though, are they painting the lines a nice colour? And hiring a few extra enforcement gestapo from some obscure African state?

Just stop and think about the sums involved as well. Two hundred million pounds. Two hundred million, on a bus lane.

There's a really acute housing shortage in Bristol and with a public-private initiative - and since the council can grant itself planning permission - I reckon they could build starter homes at £100k each, tops. Maybe £50k with economies of scale and as I say, since they land is "free". So that's 2,000 new homes they could have built to house 2,000 very needy families. Maybe 4,000.

But, instead, a fucking bus lane. I feel really strongly about this: The people responsible for it should be shot, literally.

If we were rolling in money, it would not be so bad, but there's an acute funding crisis and they can't even pay to collect the bins regularly. We are have a maximum rates hike. And they go and waste £200m like this. Calling it a disgrace, would be an understatement.

You need to check yours. Of course throwing vast amounts of cash at bailing out a banking catastrophe (that Labour presided over), made matters much worse.

However after a short period of budget surplus (due to spending restraint) in the late 1990s, the UK went into budget deficit under Labour of 2-3% of GDP between 2002-2007. A bloody disgrace considering the economy was growing by between 2% and 3% for much of the period.

Basically they spent more than we could afford, as usual.

Labour presided over ......correct I'll give you that.....however created by deregulation of the financial services sector done by the tory's on behalf of their mates and still being paid for by the taxpayer to the tune of £7billion this year whilst we see increasing homeless on the streets , the NHS on its knees, Social Care totally F*cked , pensions for women being raided, and the only policy the tories can come up with is to reduce the befefits of the disabled.......

they're tossers mate,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, open your mind

The only policy?

Give it up pal, really. Labour does not work, that's it.

The end. Bitterly disappointing for you I know, but there you have it.

It always surprises me that on these sort of threads the Tory voters show so much concern for the leadership and welfare of the labour party.I suppose they just want to see effective opposition.
It reminds me very much of rags in the pub in the late '90's telling me they wish city were back in the PL.
