Tory MP Nick Fletcher blames crime in young men on female Doctor Who

Lmao, mate. Might be best to just go off grid if having a couple of black faces on your TV winds you up this much.
That's quite an assumption you've jumped to there. Conveniently slipping over the issue I'm talking about to play the racism card, well done you.

back to the point. Diversity agendas and equality committees = Positive discrimination. And guess what mate, that's still discrimination. Why is forcing it going to be a positive? You can answer my point perhaps rather than play the race card like an eleven year old girl who doesn't like mature debate?

Im interested in how you think diversity in TV adverts, as @Ric is discussing is going to happen naturally?

A casting director has to pick 5 people to be in an advert. Either they pick a diverse group to represent everyone they're trying to sell to, or they pick the same kind of overwhelmingly white faces that were on TV adverts from 1940-2000.

There's no organic process.
Doesn't matter what colour anyone is. It's that advert casting just screams of diversity.

I'll give an example of how it affects this industry. A friend's son, a very talented white young actor, got overseen for everything he applied for over a 14 month period. He now puts that he's non-binary and, would you believe it, he ticks a box. Offers coming in.

My issue is with forced diversity. It can never be a good thing.

You could pick the best actors. Thought of that?

It's a fucking TV advert, the role is something like "Smile and take Turkey out of the oven" or "Open bottle of Champagne we're doing an offer on".

There's literally thousands of actors who could do just as good a job. Ability is not a differentiator.

Do you ever think that this might be because the market for white male roles is an oversaturated arena, and therefore harder to break in to, whereas the market for non-binary roles is basically deserted which makes it easier to land roles?

Ability is not a differentiator in getting a job? What the fuck are you talking about mate?

Obviously this is an issue stemming across many industries. Charities are a good example, forcing employees to use pronouns for example. The

My point, as you are fully aware, is that many companies are striving to recruit solely based on diversity over talent. An agenda pushed by 'Head of Diversity' and other nonsense positions to simply promote a false corporate image. If a company needs to force diversity within its company then it's most likely far from diverse and a terrible place to work.

Are you going to stop recruiting nurses and force them to drive HGVs and circulating to improve gender balance? Diversity policies the country over say we should be.

Not accusing you of being racist, mate. Point is, "diversity" on TV is just a thing now. I mean, it's been a "thing" for longer than either of us have been alive (unless you were born in the 40s?). They had all-black families on TV in the 50s, they had a transgender character on Corrie in the late 1980s and she was an established character for nearly thirty years, etc. And obviously there are thousands of other examples from the last 60 years of popular culture and society.

My point wasn't that you're a racist at all. Considering it's the case that "diversity" on TV has always been a thing, you have a choice - you can either spend the rest of your life feeling angry about something that's always existed (which you're more than entitled to do), or you can let sleeping dogs lie and try to calm down a bit? TV companies and major brands are always trying to look "progressive" because it's where the money is, it's not a new thing.

No, ability is not a differentiator if you have 200 actors who're all equally able to smile and pull a christmas cracker on demand.
