Tottenham Hotspur thread (2015/16)

We were up there with Redknapp until an epic crumble/bottle job and around 87 we looked like we could but that ended badly too.

I don't really think we had any potential in the 90's with United around just like most of the league. We are closer now than we were back then but even still it's not going to happen

The new tv money that's coming in won't help clubs like Spurs. A few clubs dreamed about and budgeted to get into the top 4, partly for the prestige but mostly for the gravy train. The new tv deal means missing out on Europe isn't that big of a deal, and I sense that quite a few clubs will settle just for being an established prem team.

What have the following teams got in common? Liverpool, Manchester United, Ipswich Town, Watford, Southampton, Nottingham Forest, Queens Park Rangers, Everton, West Ham, Arsenal, Norwich City, Aston Villa, Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday, Manchester City, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United and Chelsea.

Answer, since the top flight changed from 2 points for a win to 3 points for a win, back in the 1981/82 season, these are the only clubs to finish 12 points or less behind the eventual champions. You'll notice that Tottenham are noticeable by their absence! A fact that surprised me, that's for sure. Not entirely certain, therefore, why people regularly seem to consider Spurs one of the top sides in the division, they have demonstrably been a huge distance away from being title challengers for over 3 decades.

I posted this a while back, essentially Spurs haven't put in a sustained title challenge for over 30 years!

I'm not normally so praising of him (if that's considered praising) lol.

More than he deserves though :)

I thought the whole team played well against Everton, he struggled a bit against Stoke with arnautovic (sp) but didn't really get much backup, United he wasn't bad bar an own goal, Leicester he was bang average. Either way I've never been a huge fan, I really want to see what Trippier can do in a Spurs shirt.

I like Trippier. I don't think he is any worse than Walker defensively.

I haven't even see any of Carlton yet, I don't really know much about the chap apart from someone telling me he's more of a second striker and would be useless by himself. Have you seen him play at all?! I think MP will probably use him in the Europa/League cup unless he surprises everyone.

Never watched him play. Curious to see how he does. Son too.

Less of the 'MP', please That refers to our very own charming man on this board :)

Adebayor not in the PL squad. Interesting. I like it but he may wll have recourse to the ruling (forgotten the name of it) that may allow him to leave Spurs and claim compensation as he is not being considered.[/QUOTE]

I was going to post pretty much that, as a City fan. Wouldn't shock me if Alderweireld proved to be equal to Mertesacker and Cahill either.

A decent Lamela replacement and a back up striker would have put Spurs ahead of Liverpool and United imo.

I think Son may be that man for Lamela, who knows really. Ponch never knows what to do with Lamela, he starts him, switches flanks, super sub but nothing seems to work out. Even his loan deals fell through as well. Alderweireld has looked good so far, I just don't trust his partner very much

When your new stadium is ready you need Levi to show his bollocks and spend big, it can be done-Arsenal are established top four without spending huge amounts.

They went through a mass cash injection to have the players ready and were paying young players the highest amount in the world. The way they speak as if it was all done on a shoe string budget. Either way once they pay off their crap stadium (sure they could do it tomorrow) they would be a threat to the league in the future if they can make huge marquee signings every season, which they had done the past two seasons

I have no idea if we'll make huge signings once the stadium is in place, I bet the ticket prices go even higher too. It will probably take another 20 years to take us to another level consistently, other Spurs fans have just said I'm a pessimist but in reality it's already been 50 years, so what's another 20?! lol. It sounds like I'm whining but I honestly don't mind, if we had won the lot like United then became shit I would probably sulk, but even though we are pretty boring right now we are still consistently finishing in the top 6, that's as good as it's got in my lifetime

Same mate, never will forget that 81 final and replay, even then it was typical City, i was 12 at the time so was the first final i could remember.

They always sing about as if we are somehow beneath them, they havent won the league since the 50's for fucks sake.

Cunts

I cried all the way home on the coach !!! Will never forget that ... 1-5 was only part of the repayment

The bloke is a waste of space mate but we were warned. I'm sure if a new gaffer came in tomorrow he'd be brilliant again. He just chooses who he has the hump with. It's a shame as I think he's brilliant on his day. No doubt he'll blame one of his family for all his bad decision making

He always starts off brilliantly, but then falls out with people and tails off badly. Shame really, as he has great talent but seems to be a bit unstable to say the least.

Still gave me one of my favourite moments as a City fan though, with that goal and celebration against Arsenal.

My favourite ever moment with Ade too, that made me laugh my arse off. The funny thing is that for almost 7-8 years they had laughed when Henry raced to the Spurs fans at Highbury and done the same thing, Spurs fans took it really well though, but they acted as if it was a criminal offence when Ade done it to them

They're going backwards. Levy thinks he's the great wheeler-dealer who waits until the last minute to do all their deals hoping to get a bargain.

They simply haven't invested in the squad, which is criminal when there's been a top four place going begging the last few seasons if they'd gone for it.

One day he's going to wake up to the realisation that forward thinking teams like Swansea, Stoke & Palace have overtaken them. Won't that be amusing.
