Transfer Strategy

I’m not really into signing cheaper players like Gomez for depth, really I think if we are carrying a reasonably small squad 4 out 5 players need to be top notch to really push established players on and fit in as well as they do within a season. also need to be played in their correct positions 99 percent of the time.
i dont think generally gomez was a bad signing as he was coming into replace Zinchenko who started 10 games last year. The issue with left back is weve never really had a quality left back and thats the issue.

i think squad needs a bit of a big refresh personally. Id get rid of any player who has doubts about being here.

Im a bit done with a lot of it and totally ready for refresh overhall what ever you want to call it.

if i was txiki id get rid of any player who doesnt want to be here or has doubts about being here.

Defenders

Laporte, bernie, gundo, cancelo would all be gone imo. I wouldnt also begrudge cashing in on ake with his performaces this year wed get a decent fee.

My choice would be gvaridol for cb (laporte fee and ake fee would likley cover it) that way have ruben and gvaridol as main cbs with stones and akanji as back ups.

Id fetch 2 left backs in robinson from fulham who cant be too expensive with 1 year left on his deal. Maybe guerreiro/grimaldo.

if walker wants to go it would be adios although i wouldnt want him to leave yet and he would be replaced imo with rico as back up to learn.

Midfielders

Bernie would be gone fed up of the wanting to go and even more so recently speaking to press about it more. Id personally swap him with frenkie at barcelona. that way he gets his move and we get a player cz barca are useless at paying for players.

gundo thank you for your service but on your way for me. Hes been a great servant and i would welcome him back as/when he wants to start his coaching career.

bellingham would be signed. And Phil would start his transition into midfield as its about time he started playing there. Love kev but he cant play every week.

Forwards

id sign two pacy wingers. Dont really have a preference but a right footed one and a left footed one. Palmer i would loan to allow him to gain confidence and play regularly to find out if he is the quality to replace mahrez.

I agree that things need to further freshen things up but we can't change things to much change in a shorter period

That will take too much time to really gel if we make too many signings over a shorter period.

i get that which is why i dont think will happen. But i wouldnt begrudge it personally im kind of just fed up of seeing certain players want to leave every year. I think im at a point where id rather short term loss for long term gain. If we get a few in before preseason starts then that will give us plenty of time. i think the core of the first 11 will be the same ie haaland, grealish, foden, kev rodri dias eddie. Which will then allow others to fit in.

Stating the obvious but we need an overhaul but specifically in key areas.

2016/17 was wingers

2017/18 was full backs

Since then we’ve never particularly targeted each area to improve upon. Aside from Mahrez maybe.

Christ, 2022/23 was the first time under Pep we’d targeted a striker overhaul.

Summer needs to be: a pacy/tricky winger good in 1v1 situations, a dynamic midfielder with energy to burn and a left back.

The winger is the one, though. So many times we get ours in dangerous situations and they can’t attack their full back properly. Get somebody who excels at being direct and then teach them an end product later on. A bit like Pep did with Sterling.
