Travel to the USA

Had a brainwave and thinking of doing a trip over the pond in March, just do cheap accom like hostels and motels, good way of meeting people and flight prices looking loads better than summer.

Too many places I'd like to visit. Have brainstormed flights in and out of Miami and internal flights to Texas, toying with the idea of 2-3 nights in each of the big cities in Texas, with a few days either side in Miami. Other trips could be a week or so in Miami, Boston, or up to Canada in either Toronto or Vancouver. Anyone done similar short trips over the pond and/or any city recommendations?

Did something like this with a mate years ago. The US is a drivers country. Apart from New York you cant do much in the big cities without a car. And they arent really set up for central city living like you think they are. Most big US citys are a bit dodgy later in the evening.

Miami is like that, you would want to be on south beach not in the city. Or if you have a car then anywhere within the miles of urban sprawl and just drive to the things you want to see and do.

Thanks for the advice. Have been to the States a few times, just toying with the idea again rather than going to Spain or Greece. Some good tips for Florida further back in this thread.

Definitely agree about hiring a car. Have used the Megabus and Greyhound in the past which can offer great value for the lone traveller.
