Travel to the USA

Had a brainwave and thinking of doing a trip over the pond in March, just do cheap accom like hostels and motels, good way of meeting people and flight prices looking loads better than summer.

Too many places I'd like to visit. Have brainstormed flights in and out of Miami and internal flights to Texas, toying with the idea of 2-3 nights in each of the big cities in Texas, with a few days either side in Miami. Other trips could be a week or so in Miami, Boston, or up to Canada in either Toronto or Vancouver. Anyone done similar short trips over the pond and/or any city recommendations?
did road trip 6 years ago, east coast first then flew to west coast. 3 weeks and alot of miles. Fantastic tho

Any dodgier than big cities in the UK?
Dodgy areas in the suburbs but "down town" areas are busy and pretty safe. On a night out in Tampa or St Petersburg I don't even take my gun with me..... ;)
We left a freinds apartment in Downtown Miami (near the water) and decided to walk back to our hotel in Brickle, I think we took a wrong turn into deeper Downtown and it suddenly felt really dodgy. Quite a lot of scary looking dudes hanging around.
Same feeling walking back to The Stratosphere from Caesars in Vegas.
I agree English cities are scary late at night though.

Your gun ? is it a plastic one, like my grandsons ? :)

Water pistol..... pump action!
As you mention..... a wrong turning..... lol
Spent a week in Vegas in September and never felt more safe..... cops everywhere and most folk were too pised, stoned or just looking to party (or all 3!) to be interested in mithering anyone!

Washington DC is great.
Good metro service, great history and monuments and generally decent people.
Look at the North West Quarter which is safe.

I think we chose a bad place to stay, the Strat is on the strip but too far away from the other casino's, only walked back the once :)

What on earth are you going to do with “2-3 nights in each of the big cities in Texas”???

Don’t waste your time!

If you fly to Miami, DRIVE the Gulf Coast, to get a “flavor of the South!” You can pick your stops, based on what you want to see and do. Then, when you get to NOLA, grab a flight anywhere in the (mid-)western US you might want to visit, THEN fly back to MIA for a night or two of R&R before heading home!

MIA-Tampa/St Pete - Pensacola/Destin are all in FL and all great beach towns. From there, it’s a choice of how much “Americana” you’re interested in. Most Brits seem to like a day or two (or one night, at least) in New Orleans (NOLA). If Houston grabs your fancy, it’s a short hop from NOLA, and you can literally fly to anywhere from Houston!

Just a thought…

LasVegashotels.com

Often find good deals on there, and yes, the Stratosphere is almost NOT Vegas!

Pro tip: If you are going to do Vegas ONCE, stay on the Strip in a big name hotel/resort. You’ll always be able to talk about it, everyone will recognize the name, and everything is within easy reach walking distance.

If you like to FREQUENT Vegas, find yourself a nice “block or two off the Strip” hotel that’ll save you coin, but treat you right. If you spend time in Vegas, you’ll never want for stories and memories, but they probably won’t be about the room you stayed in!

Vegas isn’t nearly the “cheap room, cheap steak” place it used to be. A little prior research finding rooms and deals can save you serious heartburn when you arrive and save your cash for the slots and tables!

Of course, if money is no object and you can assure ANY casino you’ll spend $10,000 in the casino, you’ll get all the “great room and great steak” you can stand!

We went to Toronto, got the train to Montreal and then to Quebec, all fantastic cities, the French ones are beautiful.
