Traveling to away games in the 1970s

First away games were on finglands in the early 70's, you would buy the coach ticket in the local newsagents, then spend half an hour picking up fans around the newsagents in rusholme and moss side.

Anyone remember an FA Cup game at Newcastle in Jan 1977? There was over-crowding in the Gallowgate end where the Geordies were and the police had to take people out and were putting them with the City fans. Eventually it kicked off and spilled onto the pitch. The police formed a cordon across the pitch but some loony came charging out of the Gallowgate end. He must have thought loads were behind him but no one else followed. He leapt on a coppers back (who didn't see him coming) then loads of coppers kicked the shit out of him in the middle of the pitch. God knows what they did to him when they got him in the cells.

I don't think there was a single City fan I saw on the way back that didn't have a black eye or bloody nose.
I was at that game with my dad. We were walking to the ground and he had his City scarf on. I told him to take it off, and he said, they wouldn’t bother an older bloke like him. We turned the corner and a female City was being pelted with drinks. Scarf came off pretty sharpish.

Too many stories from the 70's, but who remembers coming back to piccadilly from places like stoke etc, kicking off with Cockney reds on the platform, then escorted out the back way off the station because there was too many rags waiting for us!!!.
Victoria Station when coming back from Yorkshire and the North East was always a problem.Never enough cops (don`t know why ;)) and it regularly kicked off big style.

As long as you weren't on Helen's coach.
Bloody hell I was just going to comment on Big Helen.
The first time I ever set eyes on her was a night game away at Sunderland via Finglands.Every fucker on the coach knew he she was,bar me and my mate.
Some tosser pulled a knife on another City fan (in the bus).Next minute Helen walked up the aisle and told the soft twat to give her the knife.
Big,big mistake !!
She sat on the fucker for over an hour. The twat couldn`t move and was honestly gasping for breath.
Fortunately for him he finally saw sense and the twat was as quite as a mouse.
Even better, he didn`t come back with us on the way back.
I often wondered why.

been to many games in the 70s mostly by car, but sometimes got the train to away games, 1 of which it was a last/ away game of the season. it was derby, so went on train from Donny to shelffield then on to derby, loads of city fans from Manchester was on that train, got into derby and a few of us from donny was wanting to find a pub for a drink, but police made us go with rest of the city fans so found a pub near the ground, it was ok till the end of the game [1-1] then derby fans went on to the pitch and came over to us and it kicked off, there was fights all the way back to the train, we got on to a train to Sheffield and as we got there a train from Manchester pulled in, full of utd fans , but none of us wore colours so we was ok until some city fans going back to Manchester decided to sing hark now hear the city sing. loads of utd fans got off train and again fights we city fans on shelffield station, got back to Donny and there were loads of utd got off train as well and they was leeds fans coming back from a game and it kicked off again
