Tsunami Hits Japan After 8.8 Earthquake. part 2.

Re: Tsunami Hits Japan After 8.8 Earthquake

Just seen some stats on CNN, and scientists reckon the quake has caused Japan's main island to move 2.4m and the earth has moved on its axis by 10cm. I take it the earth moving on it's axis is quite a big deal....?

The earth moved about the same after the 2004 quake, im sure it rebalences otherwise we would be sideways by now. People tend to forget that before people there were earthquakes, probably ones that make the Japan quake seem like a slight tremor while the earth was forming and the land split apart.

Only the biggest earthquakes will have that affect, so yes, it's a pretty big deal. The Chile earthquake last year and the Boxing day 2004 one both did the same thing, effectively shortening the days. Only by microseconds though.
It's insane to think Japan has moved 2m. Can't even begin to imagine that kind of power!

Don't send any money in for the Tokyo Tsunami Appeal, they are minted.
I have just seen a bloke on telly getting interviewed outside his house and he has two massive fucking boats on his drive.
