Ahh. Last time i saw the news they were reporting a fire, not an explosion. Lets hope the nasty stuff was not released. I remember seeing photos and documentaries of the mutations that Chernobyl caused ( around 10 years after it happened ).
Due to the quake the days will now be 1 millionth of a second smaller.

The containment shell blew to pieces. This shows that they were unable to keep the core cool or to relieve the contaminated steam pressure in a controlled way. The whole building over-pressured and blew apart releasing all the steam and who knows what else.
