Just seen this on Sky News, about the plates and where this will all go next, Hawai is in the middle of it and is only a tiny island

CNN should be taken off the air. It's bad enough what's happened to Japan but they are scar mongering despite the reports from Taiwan and Indonesia being ok. And what they have failed to pick up on is that one of the nuke power stations has no cooling at the moment. Now there is a story rather than the bulshit they are pedalling.

p.s I'm in Sanya Hainan and we are not effected.

I know this is a stupid question but i'm no good with things like this, what could happen to this nuke power station without cooling and where abouts is it?

google meltdown and Chernobyl.

Worst case scenario is the reactor will overheat and eventually catastrophically fail, akin to Chernobyl. Most likely scenario is existing emergency procedures will prevail and the radioactive rods will be removed from the reactor core, cooled down in that manner and the potential crisis will be averted.

-- Fri Mar 11, 2011 11:51 am --

It's more the height of the island than the overall surface area that's important, the Hawaiian islands are volcanic and therefore have some fairly spectacular cliffs etc, it's where the waves will cross low lying land that the problems occur.

My thoughts are with those caught up in this however I feel I need to mention it. At first I didn't believe it, still don't to be honest, although it is interesting. Reported on the 9th March.

Chernobyl couldnt happen, it can be shut off.

But it could leak, nuclear material could give some mess in the water.

You are a little overconfident there my friend. The back up power system was supposed to prevent a loss of cooling but that didn't work did it? As for being shut off? You mean the rods can be removed for cooling. Ok lets see how they do that without power.
