TV is dying.

I don't know whether it's an age thing , but i've gone right off watching live tv, the more channels there are the worse it seems to get.
Apart from David Attenborough and the odd Portillo train journey i'm hardly watching the box at all .
Anyone else think TV is a dead loss ? or are there some programme's i should be checking out ?

BBC4 is what I watch mostly. Give that a go.

Literally every programme I watch on tellybox is through Netflix or Amazon or Sky Go. Cannot remember the last time I watched a tv show as it was actually being aired 'live,' apart from the football.

Netflix and Amazon here.
The only terrestrial channel I regularly watch is BBC4 for its arts content.

The televisual medium has never been in a healthier condition. There's a vast array of quality, accessible programming from a range of genres that you can watch in a number ways any time you want.

TV is fine, it's just the way it's consumed that is changing. And British TV is something that could do with a little help given how it's dwarfed in size by the likes of Netflix.

BBC iPlayer now has box sets of old series on it, to cater for the binge watch concept, but live event TV seems to be in decline except for one or two shows. And herein lies a problem - something like The Last Kingdom got modest audiences when first broadcast, but gained popularity globally via Netflix, who then outbid the BBC to take the third series exclusively. They can't compete with that.

I've mentioned before that the concept of a UK online TV platform to cover all the channels was shot down on competition grounds, but piecemeal as it currently is, they don't have a chance against Netflix and Amazon. Time to re-visit that one I think.

Over here we have had the premier league, champions league, UEFA cup, and F.A cup matches shown live for about the last ten years. Alao all the world cup and Euros.
The only thing not shown was some of the earlier rounds of league cup matches. All the games were shown on Sportsnet and TSN (who bought the rights to show from somebody else). As of next season that all comes to an end due to DAZN outbidding them for the rights. This will be the end of me subscribing to cable t.v for the first time in about 35 years.

It is a good point. They need their money but i think i would rather pay a monthly fee to be able to skip them/have none. If i used them that is. I tend to watch films only really these days. The odd binge of a series but not much.

That's netflix surely, do you subscribe to that.
