Two jailed for death by dangerous driving

More than 6 years, that’s for sure. As I said, 3 years per victim. She will be in her early 20s when released, her whole life ahead of her.

If it was up to me, 20 years per life taken, so 40 years here. 40 years to rot and think about what a **** she was.
Why not 25 for a life? It’s easy making arbitrary rules, but each case is nuanced and the judge sentences within the guidelines having heard all the evidence.

How long should you get for manslaughter?

The law isn’t emotional. Sentences shouldn’t be given dependent on how much you want to hunt someone down.
It's not a moment of madness/loss of concentration. It was a conscious decision of a sustained period of thrill seeking and endangering life in a one tonne killing machine
It wasn't a deliberate act to kill someone, but due to the decision making of the driver, who ultimately is responsible, to drive in such a fashion for a considerable amount of time, the sentence really should be a minimum of ten years per victim and none of this concurrent crap
Drive like a maniac and kill = long prison term
When you are granted a licence to operate a vehicle in and around the general public, you also take on great responsibility and trust
We all should think about that before we set off to drive

When the law is altered to this, people will still campaign for even harsher punishment.

I don’t tend to disagree with a lot of what you’ve written, but for every case that has a thread on here, no punishment is ever enough.

Dashcam is a must these days given that standards have dramatically dropped. Too many arseholes don't know the rules combined with wannabe boy racers.

These areseholes are always in shit cars as well with no regards to others on the road.

Statements like the world's gone mad, or the country is fooked is all down to the government and law makers.
Who didn't foresee this mayhem coming with all this free society crap. We all want a fair and free society, but it should come with strict rules and respect.

I get some cyclists are a nightmare b The amount of cars you see up the arse of other cars just because they’re rightly driving at the speed limit is off the scale. It’s bred a culture of ‘well I must go faster’ and most people speed everywhere.

Driving standards are terrible these days.
Have been driving 43 years and seen a gradual worsening of driving standards.
Always been some "boy racers" and drink drivers on the road, wasn't perfect back then but far more patience and consideration was given to others.
Still some good drivers around but so many are chasing the clock so think nothing of crashing red lights, lane weaving, cutting up other motorists, incorrect mobile phone use and the smell of weed from many cars is just scary.

As a bicycler, I have the same attitude. The amount of ‘what the fuck’s this **** doing?’ I have going through my head every time I go anywhere in my bike is staggering these days. People are noticeably aggressive behind the wheel as a culture on our roads. It’s dangerous and it didn’t used to be like this.

"Ride like they're trying to kill you"

And sometimes even that's not enough.

I do. I’m sure @gordondaviesmoustache can put me straight if that’s not the case.
Not sure if they are higher than ever because in preindustrial times people were hanged for stealing sheep but prison sentences are certainly higher than they have been for about a century. Certainly in the last 30 years sentences have been going steadily up especially for serious violence and sexual offences.

People read about a sentence in the paper, usually without appreciating the context and take it as being typical rather than an an exception. And the reality is that sometimes a sentence will be too light. It’s inevitable if thousands of sentences are being passed down every week.

These two waste of spaces have been jailed for killing an innocent person, first time a passenger has been done for encouraging the dangerous driving. Watching the footage on tv they were on helium and doing upto 140mph in a 30. What amazed me was the evidence from their Apple Watch, after the collision it phoned 999 automatically, you can hear them discussing doing a runner and whether they should order an Uber, getting rid of the ballon evidence. They got 12 and 11 years let’s hope they get battered and bummed for that time.
Just round the corner from where I live, use that junction all the time. Genuinely frightening to think of some fucking idiot doing 139mph down Kingsway.

Yep.
My daughter has been on the road for a year and half. The minute she got her first car, whilst being extremely proud, a sense of fear kicked in because I know what the roads are like, and how there are some utter twats driving on them.

Never ever respond to another drivers invitations. Make your own decisions on what you can see.
I did. The driver behind the stationary car undertook by driving past on the inside on the kerb, ignoring what was in front of them, i.e traffic moving.

Only ever see cop cars on the motorways nowadays, none on suburban streets

2 occasions whilst cycling I've though I was going to die. One was a taxi pulling a U-turn directly after overtaking me in a 'No U-Turn' zone, and the second was a 4x4 pinning me against a high kerb at a set of lights making a left turn across my path.

I've been close passed more times than I care to remember, once by a double decker bus doing around 50mph on a single carriageway A road against oncoming traffic.

And don't get me started on painted cycle lanes...

Seems to be a theme. I would happily pay more tax if it was actually spent on Policing.
