Two minors suspended by club for offensive chanting at Brighton game | 17 year old charged by GMP (p29)

It all boils down to a lack of respect in society.
City are too quick in condeming our supporters.
Still waiting for them to arrest the Liverpool fans who threw the glass of coins.
You watch on Sunday see if we disrupt the minutes silence. Not a chance.
Seriously, in this day and age there isn't much else City could've done once that video came to light and went viral. Rightly or wrongly, fans could get away with offensive chanting back in the day and it was also done by a lot more fans back in the 70s and 80s but society has largely moved on from those days.

I'd be lying if I said I hadn't come out with unpalatable stuff at football matches down the years but the last thing I'd do upon hearing about the death of Charlton - or anyone else for that matter - is to start singing songs mocking him. And in an age of mobile phones and social media, those chants aren't just getting confined to being sung by half a dozen people on the concourse and heard by a few dozen and that's it. Within hours hundreds of thousands knew about it, and you have to question the idiocy of whoever thought it was a good idea to upload the video in the first place. Did they expect the fans singing it would be getting a pat on the back from the wider footballing world?

Already payed my respects to Bobby Charlton on here , but he was never the best ever England player , he played a lot of games and scored goals but the best player is a player who had everything , could score , tackle , dribble , pass , shoot , head the ball and was tactically astute Charlton does not meet all those criteria but Colin Bell does.

It’s football you fucking nob head.

Exactly, I never met him and I'm sad when most people pass. He kicked a ball about and survived a plane crash. Never really made good money even for the times. Probably relived that plane crash every time he fell asleep.

In that 66 Final, it was Alan Ball who ran the show.

To any blue there on Sunday (I will be), just remember that every camera in the ground will be focussed on us just waiting for even one person who coughs, sneezes or farts during the minutes silence so they can fill their news outlets with it for the following days, weeks, months and years.
We need to be impeccable once again.

RIP Bobby Charlton

I’m sure we’ll all honour the minutes silence
I’m sure 99% will.

If the mood on the concourse is that some fans are too pissed up to respect a minutes silence, why not start applauding Sir Bobby? Enough United fans will join in to turn it into a minutes applause. Which is the modern way of respecting the passing of players who have “had a good innings”. And drowns out any isolated bad behaviour.

Some commentators might not like it but headlines of “City fans disrespect Sir Bobby by clapping him” doesn’t quite have the same same impact as “vile chanting by City fans ruins Sir Bobby’s tribute”

I know what you mean, but everyone's going to have enough notice to know the silence will be happening. Just need everyone to shut up for a minute, even if they're pissed-up in the concourse. It shouldn't be too big an ask.

I notice united had a minutes silence before their press conference today.

Wondering when the next occasion they aren't planning to have a minute's silence is going to be...
